6th Gen Camaro 2SS “Clank” Sound from rear driver side

There is this sound that I’m hearing from the rear driver side of my 2016 Camaro 2SS. You can pretty much hear it at any speed, but is heightened when starting up and when you hover over small bumps including speed bumps. Please have a look at the video: https://youtube.com/shorts/lVn8Xq8Jl4U

I’ve been trying to figure this out for weeks now. I also really don’t want to do unnecessary repairs only do the sound to not go away. I really appreciate all the help.

Mine does the same thing. It’s not constant when cruising like that. But it’s when the car is flexing. Speeding up, slowing down, making turns, Ect. I just drown it out with music. Here’s a video of what mine sounds

@arpad_m Thanks for the post. No, the sound comes regardless, whether the A/C is On or Off. I think it is coming from two parts hitting against each other. What I don't understand is how can that be possible when I start up the car, do you guys think it's the exhaust tips?

Obvious rattle is obvious.

Check the plastic covers on the bottom of the car, then take them off and check for loose things. Fuel lines, exhaust pipes heat shields hangers AFM valves, wiring. Fuel tank attachments, etc. Also check in the DS rear speaker & hole for loose things.

After all of that, DS rear suspension & brakes, trunk DS side modules, etc. Make sure the tow hook isn't rolling around in the trunk.

Ah, okay, I see, initially I thought it might be the pressure vent beneath the quarter panel that has caused a similar rattle-y sound on some cars.

If no plastic trim piece is loose and no clips are broken in the rear and you verified everything Gunkk mentioned, another potential candidate is the infamous NPP rattle, if you have the dual mode exhaust option (you can tell from quad exhaust tips). The fix for that is described in this GM TSB that I applied myself with complete success.

That’s a lot of things to look into. I appreciate the insight and will begin looking into them one by one. Will update if I am able to troubleshoot the issue.

I do have the NPP exhaust and the statement looks promising, however GM notes that the sound is caused in the right rear exhaust control valve actuator; as we can hear in the video, the sound is coming from the left rear side (driver’s side). Does this makes sense?

Well, the NPP valve and actuator parts are the exact same design on the left and the right, I don't see how only the passenger side would be affected. IMO it's more likely that GM came out with a bulletin after the first few instances and never updated the description.

I'm not saying this is definitely what you're hearing, but it's a valid possibility. This one is easy to check from outside the car, too.

A few things, get a buddy to ride in that seat and try to isolate it...it'll sound different from the drivers seat. Check under the trunk for somethign loose. Gently fist(!) bump the interior and exterior body panels and try to replicate the noise. Lastly, get under it and start poking around.

that's not the known NPP rattle or problem.
