Exporting Camaro to the UK

Hi all,

I live in the UK and got to drive a '19 Camaro SS while on holiday last year. I fell in love with it!

I'm seriously considering buying one in a few months (once my current car lease has ended) and wanted to check how hard/easy it is to work with a dealer to export a new or nearly new Camaro.

I've looked at the UK cars for sale, but there are only a few, as GM have stopped exports to the EU and only ever sold a handful officially in the UK. All UK cars are 2018 models which have been adapted for UK law but there are no official 10 speed autos, for example.

The exchange rate US$ to UK is not great, so I was also thinking about Canada, as the rates are much better. Other than the analogue speedo, are US and Canada cars the same?

There are a few companies in the UK that can ship cars from North America, so that seems ok, and I know the taxes and duties, but interested in what the dealers might think. I presume they are not allowed to export by GM?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I can't help with how difficult it would be, or price, or anything else, but you might also want to look at Australia.

We have HSV left to right converted Camaro's.

https://www.hsv.com.au/see/camaro/

HSV is partly owned by GM, so the conversion was done with GM's help, they provided the designs etc. They've stopped converting them now, so the 2019 model is the last there will be, but new cars are still available on car lots.

Out of interest, what are they actually selling for now? Exchange rate is quite favourable with Oz at the moment

If you buy it from the cheapest state, and given your circumstances you could, they are selling new 2019 2SS Manuals for AU$75k, so around 40k pounds? I don't know what export costs would be, and what you could save by not registering it in AUS etc.

Sorry, I was referring to the ZL1

But it's a little more complicated than that. From the 'States, budget $3K for transportation and insurance, then once it lands, there's 10% duty on the purchase price and shipping, and then 20% Value added Tax on that subtotal again. Finally, another $1-$1.5K for UK legalisation and paperwork. My $55K Camaro ended up costing me £58K landed ( $73K at todays exchange rate)
