An SS 1LE with DSSV's or better and hard mounted diff cradle would probably be my overall favorite track 6th gen. The power of the ZL1/E is nice. The weight is not. First world problems.
A lot of people just don't want to hear that, no matter how you describe it or spell it out to folks. It's almost like the Hellcat, for instance. People see 707hp and think that our measly 650hp ZL1's/Z06's are fodder for them, just because of the OEM horsepower ratings.

Anyways, I got into this a bit on the ZL1 subforum on here where I just couldn't wrap my head around why people were so obsessed with GM putting an LT5 in a Camaro just so that they can keep up with the Jones'.

That would be an awesome car, and there probably would have been something like that with a little more power if the z28 had gotten the green light.

For now an SS 1le with the DSSV's, solid cradle bushings, and maybe heads cam and/or FBO would be pretty sweet.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Whether it was big blocks vs small blocks in the 60's or forced induction vs NA today, people have always managed to link the desirability of a car to the power of its engine and the resulting straightline statistics. Everything else, strictly secondary if it was considered at all .

I'm enjoying it, that's for sure. It looks like the dealership put some low grade fuel into the car when I picked it up. I filled it with 93 from Shell yesterday and it felt much peppier and the power-band seemed much more consistent. With that being said, I took some turns at speeds that would have made me a hair uncomfortable in my 1LE on some back roads in my area; the car handled it quite well on the stock MPSS tires.

I'm hesitant to start delving into performance mods but, my wife seems more impatient with my hesitation than I would have thought. She's contacted some places herself to ask about heads/cam setups. Haha. I think my first order of business is to get the paint squared away and then the wheels/tires. Once that's done, I'll worry about power mods but, I gotta get the wifey to pump the brakes for a bit. We'll see.

Either way, it's been great so far. It's a real neck breaker kind of car and the 3LZ interior is much nicer than my 1SS 1LE interior--not to say I cared much for the luxuries, per se. The car rides smooth, gets good mileage so far and turns in better than I anticipated. I'm going to enjoy tracking this thing next year.

You might want to go with the instinct to slow down on the performance mods, I have quite a few friends in Corvettes and I've heard from a few with Z06s that they regret going as far down the rabbit hole as they did. That car can make a lot more power than the platform can handle well.

C7s get a lot of attention, in your original post that was one of the things that struck me as I've of the opposite opinion, one of the things I didn't like about my C7 was the attention from randos where as the camaro only gets attention from car people.

Performance mods on a Z06 is like doing plastic surgery on a Victoria Secret model.

Spireland: Yeah. Traction is something that I think may be challenging to acquire if I go down that rabbit hole, as you say--especially since I refuse to put drag radials on the car or any car I own for that matter.

cbr1100xx: I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.

He is saying that mods don’t need to be done on a ZO6! It’s perfect the way it is.

I think he means mods are not needed. You have lot of power now with a well connected chassis. I would take a couple months to get used to the car, break it in etc. Drive Safe.

Ah. If that's the case, I suppose that's fair. I'm more concerned with taking care of the paint, wheels and cooling aspects rather than adding more power. My better half just wants to hurt feelings out there as soon as possible. Don't get me wrong, I will certainly mod it and pick up a few more ponies but, I don't expect going off the deep end, largely due to the aforementioned traction issues.

IMO you really don’t need to do much to it! To me it’s a rocket ship already once the LT4 is broken in with more driving time. That Shell V-Power is good gasoline and that’s what I use in my ZL1 and sometimes use 93 Chevron. Both perform well in my ZL1.

Wink

I went the other way. I traded my '14 Corvette Z51 automatic transmission for a '16 Camaro SS w/. manual transmission.
Yes the Corvette C7 has a more appealing exterior and interior sporty design, but my Corvette was very unreliable expending too much time at the repair shop and twice towed, even that all repairs were under warranty was a nuisance.

The only time that I toke my car to a local DE event was ridiculous because it wasn't able to finish it because the A6 transmission overheated because of lacking a proper HP transmission cooling system while even Civics were able to finish without issues. On the road or street never had that issue. Just that the automatic transmission Z51 wasn't a real track car. I loved the way that my car looked and handled but this type of situation was too much too me. I never had any reliability issue with my prior 5th gen Camaro ZL1. Now I'm happy again with my '16 Camaro SS and better yet, shifting on my own, which I really missed, car handles great has a strong engine, more comfortable, but I have to admit it doesn't have the amazing looks of the Corvette C7.

I can understand that. When I had my 2016 Camaro with an A8, I really missed having a manual transmission. I eagerly traded it in for my 1LE. I did have issues with the A8 and had my torque converter replaced by GM. With this car however, I am so far very pleased with my choice to get an A8. I can focus on the handling dynamics and trying to keep this sucker straight. The C7 is noticeably lighter than the Alpha chassis Camaro and with this much power, traction is an interesting game to play. Therefore, keeping both hands on the wheel is probably a good idea as I get used to it.

I hope I don't have any of the reliability issues you had but, if I do then I'll just pick up another car in the future.
