I had mine basically fully rebuilt dealer billed GM for over $3k! I literally pulled into my dealers garage and the transmission was done! Would not even go into drive or reverse. Much better now, but still drives me crazy most times, crappy shifts, rough shifts, rough shift going from P to D. When in performance mode, works awesome, or if I shift myself via shifter.

Honestly I’d rather have paid $1000 more just to get a high quality transmission, something that makes people go “wow it’s top of its class in the sub 50,000 price range”. Or at the very least, just not shit.
I'm taking mine in tomorrow (11/3) with a host of other issues. I've been able to find TSB's and document ID's for everything else, but this issue. I've only seen one other thread about the reverse shift and it's the one you posted. I've got video and will demonstrate all issues to the Service Advisor when I get there in the morning. Just had to do a lot of research to find all of those documents. Hopefully, it comes back fixed and I'll update with what was done. Don't forget to ask to show them in a brand new Camaro that it doesn't do that if necessary. I know mine didn't do what it's doing when I bought it.

My main concerns at the moment are the transmission and the engine. Notjing else in the core function of the car concerns me at the moment, thankfully. The engine is more me wanting to make sure it’s A-ok (some shudder and shake, some injection noise, is his or that turning perfectly circularly, is the amount of shake at idle normal, etc), and transmission of course just makes me upset.
I've got Active Fuel Management noises: ID4340738 & #16-NA-003
Clicking when turning at low speeds: PIC6276B, ID4868421, & P/N1158382. Supposedly a loose sway bar bolt/nut.
The harsh shift into any driving gear out of park: 16-NA-175 (that's the flush and only thing I can find on this issue besides a rebuild that was on the forums)
Groan when turning: 2866407 & 4641849. Either LSD or tire noise when cold.

Other than those issues, the car has been a dream. Chevy should have gotten rid of the current auto transmission when the A10 was through development. That or allow every A8 that fails or has problems to upgrade to the A10.

I really do hope they’ll offer an upgrade (recall) program to move to A10. Preferably under warranty. But even if I’m out of warranty and they reduce price to at-cost for A10 if the A8 fails, I don’t want to put the same A8 back in my car. Also don’t want engine damage to build up from the transmission being bad, isolated issues that stay isolated are better than infectious problems that reverberate problems into other parts.
Yeah. It would be nice. I'm also looking on Corvette forums for details on the issues since they had the A8 first. There are many similar issues between the two cars. See below for what was happening and Post #65 for resolution:

What was done:
(1) A reprogram + they drove the car. Confirmed my software was all up to date already.
(2) First oil change
(3) Service tech checked a new V6 Camaro and confirmed my P/R/N/D shifting issue does not happen in the new model on their lot.

What is better:
(1) The car shifts better overall. Big improvement from 3-4-5 upshifts, small improvement from 1-2-3 upshifts, small improvement from 5-4-3-2 downshifts.

What is still wrong:
(1) The car still hiccups/jerks from 1-2, but not as much. Now the shake is half as bad, but quicker. Other gears seem to go smoothly. Gearing down is improved slightly, but gearing down 4-3 is still mediocre, and 3-2 is still quite poor. Gear 2 is the biggest problem in this vehicle.
(2) If I stay at 1000 rpm in gear 4, I still get V4 mode shake, but I didn't address this with the tech.

What was not done:
(1) They didn't flush the transmission fluid at all.
(2) They didn't really know what to do, and said the transmission is fixed (which it's not, it's just better -- now the issue is almost solely isolated to around gear 2). I waited over a week for my appointment, now I have to wait another 10 days for the next. Would like to just keep my car there until it's fixed.

What will be getting done:
(1) Appointment in 10 days. They say the transmission isn't the issue, and that something else is going on to make the car shake when switching between P/R/N/D. I'll be letting them know that shifting into and out of gear 2 is still presenting issues, and shifting down to gear 3 is still so-so as well. I still want the transmission fixed, shouldn't be feeling my gear 1-2 shifts, and shouldn't feel like never gearing down from 3-2 for fear of damaging the vehicle...
Sounds like the dealership you took your car to employ idiots

That won't fix the problem if the clutches aren't properly learned on that transmission - which would have to be done if the transmission was replaced.

The process for learning the clutches and clutch return springs on the 8 speed is extremely time consuming. They have improved some data points on the scan tool for the 2018 models but older vehicles (2016 - 2017) still requires some creative driving to properly learn the clutches/clutch return springs.

Your going to have to hope the technician is willing to spend the extensive time with it and go through the various bulletins and perform all the steps to get it shifting properly. Or at least the best it can.
