Air Box Screws - A Decent Substitute?

I find it difficult to remove some of the 5 air box screws that hold the air filter in place because of the angle, and the screwdriver sometimes slips a bit when unscrewing them. Thus the heads are slightly mangled. I thought I would just get another set, but the dealer priced them at $18 each!

I can't even find them on GM parts sites.

Does anyone know of a decent substitute for these screws, maybe with an allen head instead?

Thanks for your help.

I don't have any suggestions for substitute screws. However, when I need to remove the top of my airbox, I use this long neck Phillips screwdriver I bought at Lowes. Really helps to get that back corner screw out and in.

This is the only vehicle I own that does not have tool-less air filter access.

long shank phillips screwdriver works best. If you do remove the whole box (pull straight up and it will pop out of the grommets) watch the rubber grommets (3) as they can stick on the plastic dowels or fall out completely. Place the grommets back in the metal receivers and press down making sure each dowel pops into place.

Funny, I can get all of the ones on my 18 SS just fine using my cordless dewalt driver

Yes you need to have the perfect angle for the last one in the back but I have had it on and off several times, never an issue

This was my technique before I dropped one of the screws into Narnia. I had to take the driver's wheel off and a bendable extended magnet to find it.

Either magnetize the tool or stuff a rag down beneath the air box. I lost fasteners and sockets in my Silverados and Corvettes until the obvious occurred to me.

Actually I use the drill to loosen them until they are sticking up then pull off the whole cover and fully remove once off the car
