Guessing Whats Under the Z/28's Hood

We've spend quite a lot of time guessing and speculating over whats going into the Z/28 (or whatever it is that has been recently spotted at the 'ring with that huge wing).

Early on there were some thoughts that GM might go with a V6 or turbo4 but the videos that we've seen pretty much kills that idea. We might not agree on whether there is any blower whine but it clearly has V8 rumble.

So here are all the general ideas that I can remember seeing:
  • Small (5.0-5.5L) but high revving NA engine, reminiscent of the old 302 from the original Z/28. Possibly with a flat plane crank
  • LT1 with slight power bump (~20 hp) via things like CAI, freer exhaust, etc.
  • Heavily reworked LT1, akin to the LS6 of the C5 Z06, producing around 500 hp
  • A new large displacement NA engine, serving as the successor to the LS7. Likely to put out something in the mid 500s
  • LT4, making the same 640-650 or so hp that it does in the Z06, CTS-V, and ZL1.
  • 'Super LT4': an even more powerful version of the force-fed 6.2L either through the use of a bigger blower or maybe turbochargers. Minimum of 700 hp
  • Other (please specify)

Im thinking a large displacement NA successor to the LS7 to be called LT7. I'm thinking about 540-550hp.

I sure it is an engine... LOL.

7 liter direct inject with an intake very similar to the MSD intake which is phenomenal. You think GM would have figured this out, the LS 6 intake, a simple redesign with enlarged plenum was so much better. The MSD just has more plenum and larger / tapered runners and it is really the best thing since sliced bread.

I originally thought LT4 bc I thought I heard blower whine. The latest videos, not sure I hear it anymore.

So I am going with heavily reworked LT1. Ala LS1 to LS6

The most realistic is the LT4 but I'm not sure I hear blower whine

Second most realistic is a hot LT1, similar to the LS6, hopefully in the low 500 hp range.

What I'm hoping is an LTx 7.0 in the 540-550 hp and 500 tq range.

No idea what's going under the 6th gen Z/28 since I feel like it's quite awhile away. Hoping for a high-revving, NA answer to the Voodoo.

As far as the big wing car running around the 'Ring? I don't buy the premise that it's a Z/28. Everything about that car screams (literally) ZL1 variant to me, and as such, it means it must be powered by an LT4.

Ford threw down the gauntlet with the GT 350 and R versions. GM will most assuredly answer with a Z/28 and possibly a Z/28 R vs a ZL1 R IMO.

I cannot wait to see what it ends up being.

As far as an engine guess - I'm betting it will most likely be an N/A motor based on the 6.3 and north of 550 HP (with an LTx designation) but from there it could be anyone's guess.

All aluminum 454 LS6 with 12:1 CR, oval heads, domed forged pistons and all forged internals pushing 560HP with 610 pounds of torque and telling the bean counters and EPA types to put it where the sun does not shine. Just a thought.....
