So called again to get some clarification. Apparently my build date of 9/17/20 is within the TSB range so it sounds like they're going down that route first. Not sure what they had to rule out to get there.

Not necessarily. The ecu logs completely normal misfires that occur in all engines. A CEL only comes on once they surpass a certain threshold. That being said, there are also serious misfire events. But the simple question of the ecu logging them isn’t in-and-of-itself always a red flag.

I had the file pulled from my previous (healthy) 2019 ZR1. It had misfires logged despite never having a CEL. This is when I researched and learned about misfires in a bit more depth.

I’d almost bet the house you had a valve springs(s) break. That will obviously cause the A/F to go whacky and log misfires. Hopefully it’s an easy spring set swap and you’re back on the road.

Is the LT1 and interference engine? If so I'm not sure I'm ok with them just leak-down testing the 1 cylinder and not actually inspecting the valves and piston for damage. And without testing the other cylinders it could be "in spec" but still less then the others... right?

I guess after 4 days they finally found the time to pull the Valve cover and confirm the broken spring. Cylinder passed the leakdown test so there shouldn't be any other damage as I'm sure the odds of the valve kissing the piston without bending the valve are astronomically small.

Service advisor apparently didn't know the difference between a Valve and a Piston. Hopefully the Mechanic is much better qualified.

Let's try a slightly positive spin on this, the advisor is probably just getting ready for the Golden Electric Age

I don't think a dealership would want trainees or junior techs to open up an LT1 engine, but it may still be worth talking to the service manager, expressing your concern about such an early failure (that they SHOULD have anticipated and fixed proactively, the TSB has been out for quite a while) and asking for a good bunch of before/after photos of the repairs done.

My SS 1LE was built 9/20 and have put 1,400 miles on it in a month and probably 300-400 of them have been highway pulls or mountain driving in 2nd and 3rd gear. No issues yet and it revs like a beast on every on ramp.I am sure they will get her back on the road and screaming through the gears.
