Magnetic Ride Control or Not?
With my daughters final tuition payment made… Our plan is to finally buy our Camaro, my wife and I have wanted one since it came back in 2009. A local dealer has a 2SS in Satin Steel Gray that has all the options I would want. Dad is retired GM and the Employee price is $43K. I’d rather wait till the Spring so I’m not making payments while it sits in the garage during a Michigan winter. Plus I’m still paying my daughters rent and she should be off our insurance shortly after she graduates this spring.
So as a GRADUATION Present (NOT for our daughter). My sales guy (a different dealer that has the Satin Steel 2SS) suggested ordering one. He printed me the build sheet so I can plan my order. So I plan on ordering a 2SS in Satin Steel Gray and going with the Medium Ash Gray or Ceramic White Trim Interior over black. The only other significant change I am considering is going with the Magnetic Ride Control (F33 option) over the Performance Suspension (FE3) increasing the build by $1700. Every Camaro I have seen on any lot does not have tinted windows, even rear. Is that an option I am missing? I’d like to time delivery for late April or early May, how long has the ordering process been? Thanks. |

Magride is certainly worth every penny if you have the money for it. If not, I wouldn’t loose sleep over it, the car is still excellent without it.

I don’t have mag ride and have taken 800 mi trips a number of times and at 50, never felt the need for it. SS rides firm but never rough or harsh. I would never use mag ride so glad I didn’t pay for it.

Congratulations! I was in your shoes in September. We ordered ours then as my wife’s Christmas/ birthday present. She told me as long as it was red, convertible, and a 6 speed I could pick all the other stuff. So I did what every other good husband would do! V-8? Check!
Npp exhaust ? Check! Magnetic ride control? Check! I really wanted the 1/le package but it was not meant to be! Not on a convertible. Which is why I got the magnetic ride control. It’s the best of both worlds. I get sports car handling when I want it and a nice soft ride when I don’t. It’s with every penny |

I have had the Gen6 camaro with and without the MAG ride option. Its not a night and day difference, in my opinion anyway. I dont track my cars, but on certain roads I could tell the difference between tour, and sport modes. It is noticeable in the ride of the car.

Some people have reported that the ceramic white is tough to keep looking nice. I suggest you search the forums to see what others have said before you buy it yourself. |

When I was think about what color I wanted I was between shadow gray and satin steel. I ultimately chose satin steel. The metallic flecks really pop in the sun light. I think you’ll love your color choice. Hope you don’t have to wait as long as I did. Built 3/9/20 didn’t get to take delivery until 7/11/20. Seemed like forever. Good luck.

I will also vote a "YES" for Mag Ride.
At first, I wasn't all that impressed with it (the cars I test drove, none had it) as it didn't seem much different... But with more time the in the seat, I really notice the change in suspension feel. On longer highway drives, I like to throw the suspension into touring for a softer (yet still very planted...) feel. Often times, it is in sport most of the time which is only a tad more firm. The best I can describe it at times (if the road isn't too bad) is that the car is almost floating down the road as the bumps and such are isolated/dampened so well. Which is really impressive considering how tight and firm/planted the suspension is in these cars. I think the mag ride just adds a touch more refinement and comfort to the driving experience. However, track mode can be fun as the suspension becomes very firm and almost go-kart like. If you hit turns with some uneven road, be prepared for a fairly jarring but exciting ride. It's a pretty significant change! Going back, I'd honestly pay double for the option... I like it that much! Does the car need it? Nope. But I think for the price off the add-on, it's a wonderful option. |
