6th gen Camaros VS exotic cars from the 80's.
Hi Guys,
Have you ever competed in the track VS any prior exotics, like the Porsche 928, BMW M1 or De Tomaso Pantera from the 80's? I wonder how they would perform against our newer 6th. gen Camaros.

They would all get beat bad. A 928 only had 240 HP, I think. The Pantera about the same, as it had a smogged, low perf. 351 from the seventies. As for handling, it wouldn't even be close.

Pretty much everything from the 80's and early 90's would get smoked....
Porsche 959, Lambo Diablo (1990 when they first started), Ferrari GT 40, perhaps one or two other cars... But most of them would just get owned....at the drag or on a road course..

I would think the ferrari f40 would be faster with a better power to weight ratio... but fastestlaps.com estimates a ferrari f40 with a 1:39 a Laguna Seca, and the Camaro ss 1le has a 1:37.78!

We live on great times. Great performance Camaros at a low entry ticket. That's nice. When I was young I always dreamed of owning a Porsche 944 Turbo, and now I have a Camaro SS that can beat any of those exotic cars for much less $$. That's amazing

Sounds like you’re about my age, when we cut our teeth performance like this wasn’t available at any price. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a sixth gen after about ten years of very basic a-to-b transportation, and I still can’t believe a car I can actually afford could offer this much.

Thing is it's not only about the speed of the vehicles, it's about the memories that they produced while I love my present car and it performs great I think back to my Pontiac 400 Formula I had in HS and the fun we had in it even though it had less hp than my Wife's minivan.. Next up my 86 Mustang GT cruising around Oahu HI in my 20s and all the ladies that enjoyed its performance taking it from a 14.5 sec car to 10.30s. I don't think my present car will ever match up to those wild and crazy nights in the cars past.

It's really something isn't it? I mean, the absolute cheapest, zero-option entry level Camaro you can buy today does the quarter in 14 flat and hit's 60 in the 5s. As you say, we live in great times. |

Lets take a spin back to 1987 when Camaro had total sales of 137,760 and compare that to todays numbers. Seems folks liked that car a whole lot more than today's offering despite its non-supercar like performance. The Camaro at that time was a beautiful machine.

1987 was the year that Ford change the GT to give it an extremely controversial (hideously ugly) front end. It still out sold today's offering from Ford ...handily.
