Cheapest way to get to 500whp

Just looking for info here..

Thinking of a roadrace build and looking to get to at least 500whp and do it as inexpensively as possible.

Would intake, long tubes, and a cam be enough?

David

Yes that would get you there but cheapest would be nitrous.

Some cars can come close to 500 wheel hp with bolt on parts. That is to say, you don't end up on an unhappy dyno. A cam change with the correct bolt on's is the best way to get 500+ hp. Then e85 would be a bonus on top of that. My car is making 534 wheel hp with bolt on's and one of our stage 3 camshafts. I would guess that port work would add another 30-40 hp on top of that.

Which lobe profile do you use? One of Comp Cams?

Is that with stock springs?

I highly doubt that he is well over 600 with those mods, he isn't even at 600 with those mods.

He got a dyno done at 515 rwhp. But thinks the gears skewed the results

FBO cars are 480-500 rwhp depending on dyno and correction factor etc.

Even at 515 and 15% loss (which is way high) it wouldn’t be 600.

About 550-575 crank hp is a good guess.

I trap 127-128 as well and make 490 rwhp.

Exactly. That car is not making 600rwhp with just those bolt ons. He's talking rwhp also not crank.

well, I don't need that much for roadracing, but I would definitely like to be over 500 wheel.
I'm gonna keep an eye out for long tubes, do either a fast or MSD intake with a cold air and see where that puts me. Of course I will consider a cam as well, depending on where I end up.

I would do headers, ported MSD, 95mm throttle body, Rotofab, flex fuel sensor and E85 tune. Should be right at or slightly over 500 at the wheels give or take a few. Then you can decide if you want to cam it or not.

My car made 500+ rwhp STD on a dynojet, and it baselined at 380 rwhp (a8). With a baseline of 380 rwhp and the 455 rating, that would be 16.4835% drivetrain loss.

500 / 0.83516 = 599 crank hp.

To answer the original question.... just throw a nitrous kit on a stock car, you will be well over 500 rwhp and cheaper than anything else.

From what I've seen, a ported stock intake and either a 95mm or stock ported TB (Pray Performance seems to have them down), E85 FF sensor, Rotofab, cat deletes (if you don't care about them), and a custom tune by Pray, Janetty Racing, or other reputable LT1 tuner and you could see if you even need headers.

My car weighs 3900#, to remove 600# from a factory car would be nearly impossible.
No bolt-on 6th gen is anywhere close to 600whp on a realistic dyno. That is max effort heads/cam territory. Snowblind's car and any other bolt-on 6th gen running mid 10's has quite a bit of weight pulled out of the car. Most have the seats pulled, drag wheels, drag brakes, dumped exhaust...etc. You can get a 1ss down into the 3400 range pretty easy with these mods. they only way 3580-3600lbs bone stock.
