5 reasons why the Corvette will remain an old man's car..
http://www.corvette7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405
Discuss. Unfortunately one of the reasons why applies to me (family), but the rest don't. The writer is on to something though - gen X does seem to like driving boring soul-less appliances.

That article reads like a bitter taste of personal experience. It sounds like someone who wanted a Corvette back in the day but couldn't afford one and still doesn't know how to save up for one. Maybe the author is also bitter about getting older and driving a boring car.
That C7 screams Corvette in such a stylish way that it might cause some weird responses.

I think that the price is the main thing, 2 or 3 times the cost of a Camaro SS... Alot of the members are still paying their cars off/ alot arent, but the price tag for a corvette with the same features as a 'Loaded Camaro' is going to be outrageous..

it just doesn't add up. I'm 26, and I'm able to afford a ZL1, not because I'm rich by any means, but because I know how to manage my finances and save for what I want. The writer seems like he/she would complain about the price until it was equivalent with the prius. |

I used to be Dragoneye...

Well...it's certainly not going to be a teenage boy's first car.......but with luck, it will become a domestic alternative to Ferarri's, or Porche's for more people than it already is. Many of those people want unadulterated style and street-presence. C7's got that.
Re: price....look at what it has, compare it to other cars that have similar equipment...and then seriously complain about the price point. I think Blur's onto something... |

Z07 or ZR1 versions yes. but the Stingray is supposed to start in the low 50s. being that I just gave nearly that on my Dusk I dont see that being 2-3x at the most 10k more. The vette is a young mans car now aimed at the young professional that loves gadgets. I think the author is a moron but that's me.

While I don't agree with many of his points as to why it's still going to be an old man's car, I do think that pricing is pretty much 90% of the equation. If it was 40k brand new, a lot more youngins would be able to purchase it regardless of their marital status, how many kids they got at home or what they thought of the C3. |

I see many older men driving Vettes around here but that's because I live in a common retirement county.

You cannot touch any nice car for much less than that. Bmw Infiniti mercs Acura Lexus all start in the low 50s and I see tons on young people driving 5 and 6 series bmws. Why? Because the are trendy and a status symbol. Vette will be very attractive in that range especially with the full electronic dash and modern gadgets that most older guys would find a turn off.
