Yes, many of the splash shields from the factory do little for protection. I think the manufacturers are also on the fence of protection and/or aesthetics. They do look good because customers can be sold on the idea of protection, but it does very minimal at the end of the day.
To each his own on the looks, but after ~40k miles on my 2016 1LT, including trips out to a gravel covered ranch about once a week, I'm sold on the ZL1 rock guards 100% which is why I put them right on my 2021.

And I don't even notice them any more - here are some pictures I took right after I installed them on my 2016 which show they are relatively unobtrusive. And the car still regularly gets compliments on its looks, but nobody has ever said "ugly mudflaps!"

Side skirts help a lot and 3M protective clear is a must. I didn’t do anything on my 2016 SS and learned the hard way.

Waved as I passed through the garage...

Spring is coming and so are the goodies. Planning to add GM side skirts, doesn't look right without them IMO.
I purchased a used full second set of 1LE wheels with the GYSC3 tires with almost no mileage. Better shape than mine!
So, the ones already on the car will get new tires, Michelin, Continental, undecided, something more rain friendly for sure after I'm done shredding them up.

Going to be a busy spring!!! I love this thread, just haven't had anything to add to it....yet.

Carry on!

Dropped it off at the detailer yesterday. Will be there for about a week or so (damn holidays). Getting paint correction and ceramic coating. sucks walking by the garage and not seeing the car in it.

Pulled off all the wheels for a good cleaning, applied HydrO2 for the first time, and installed the McGard locking lugs that arrived today (although I am thinking I might go with a set of black factory lugs in place of the non-locking McGard lugs).

Still waiting on my brushed-finish center caps - they should be here on Monday. I got sticker shock when I was shopping around for center caps and saw $150 seemed to be the going rate for a full OEM set. Hopefully the $40 OEM set I found on eBay will work out...

Installed the GM smoked third brake light and Wildhammer smoked rear reflectors to go with my GM smoked taillights and diode dynamics smoked side markers. Package goes together really well on the F1FTY. Also installed new lift points on the pinch welds.

Visited my car at the detailer today. Its been a week and it's looking amazing. They had it cut down as far as they had to go and were at the point of polishing just the fine abrasives out. Plan was either by this evening or tomorrow morning the ceramic coating will be on.

I had more PPF installed today (namely, on the front sections of the rear quarter panels).

I work at Bombardier for the Global 6500 and I disapprove this comment. Haha.

You work as a pilot or you own this Gulfstream?
