Factory performance locking seatbelts?

From the Camaro High Performance Owners Manual Supplement;

Lap-Shoulder Belt-
On coupe models, the driver seat
belt has an Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR). This feature is useful in performance driving scenarios where the driver wants to
be held in the seat more tightly to take advantage of the aggressive bolstering of the seat.

To use:
1. Move the seat 8–10 cm (3–4 in) rearward from the normal driving position.

2. Pull the driver shoulder belt out as far as it will go, until it stops, to set the lock. While holding the shoulder belt in this position, buckle the belt.
When you release the shoulder belt, the retractor will make a ratchet sound when it retracts. When the retractor lock is set, the belt can be tightened but not pulled out of the retractor.

3. Adjust the belt close to your body, and then move the seat forward 8–10 cm (3–4 in) to the desired driving position. This will hold the belt to your body even tighter. The belt fit should be tight, but not uncomfortable.

To unlatch the belt, press the button on the buckle. The belt should
return to its stowed position.
^^^^^

I think this would be super useful on the track, however I just tried to get it to work in my car in the garage with it off and I couldn’t.

Has anyone ever heard of/used this?

I think the contents of the high performance owners manual supplement are geared towards to the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE, with a few exceptions that also apply to lower trims, especially with the 1LE package. The vast majority of features covered in there aren't available on the vanilla SS.

I would too! Cant figure out how to activate it? Does the regular SS have it? I've had Chevys 3 cars in a row and I know they're too cheap to use different belts in a regular ss vs a 1le lol- how to you lock the belt?

The instructions you posted tell you exactly how to activate it. You pull the belt out all the way, and it will ratchet/lock as it retracts. My 1SS did it, and my ZL1 1LE also does it.

When I use it, I'm sitting in the car and the belt is latched then I pull it all the way out. That shouldn't matter as the feature is purely a mechanical thing. But in general, most manufactures don't have a feature like that on the drivers seat belt so it is something that was added specifically for the car.

Most cars have this feature. (Pull belt all the way out, and it will ratchet on the way back). I use it all the time in minivans to secure gear in the back cargo space when seats are folded up. Also use it in my truck passenger seat when driving with a cooler on the passenger seat.

Never thought to use it for performance driving tho. Makes sense.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I believe the regular SS models no longer have this feature as of 2019.

2016-2018 has it on all models, but '19+ is specific to 1LE and ZL1 models.

I was able to get it to work in my 2020 1SS after messing with it a little more. I can confirm.
