Man, now that those are gone hopefully someone will shut down the RIM Blackberry factory so my company will be forced to buy something worth a crap. (We also drove Impalas for company cars, and I will never own one after that fiasco).

Oshawa was mainly overflow for Equinox production. Primary assembly will still be CAMI with Spring Hill for overflow.

Impala will start up on the Camaro/Regal/XTS line with Detroit-Hamtramck for overflow.

It'll happen soon enough. RIM is sinking fast.

I would assume that the plant that builds the Equinox isnt shutting down either. They had to open a 2nd plant somewhere else to keep up with Equinox demand!!

I think ur wrong. Yes they will be building the nox there but not ONLY there. They did that because Equinox production was selling like hotcakes.

Spring Hill is just overflow in case CAMI can't build enough. It's easy to see what products GM expects to be high volume because they'll start up a secondary plant just in case, IE 2013 Malibu and 2014 Impala.

Oshawa is that 2nd plant. If I remember correctly, they were sending some half completed vehicles roughly 150 miles from London Ontario (the main Equinox plant) to Oshawa. That particular production line was near by & under utilized, an obvious choice for expanding Equinox production. But I'm betting that it was only ever intended as a temporary solution until they could get another plant tooled up to build them (like Sping Hill) and/or waiting until Impala production on that line ended to keep the workers as occupied as possible.

Alright, but aren't they splitting production of the XTS as well? Oshawa, in theory, has the capacity to build every single Cadillac sold. There isn't much of a need to have 2 plants building a thousand XTS's a month.

My guess is that GM is trying to hedge their bets regarding the Canadian dollar. If it gets too expensive to build up here (and they're on the cusp of that right now, and have been for a few years ... I think), they'll be able to shift some production to American plants.

As far as I know Oshawa is the only assembly plant for XTS.

DGthe3....I agree with you about vehicles getting to the point of being "to expensive" to manufacture here in Oshawa/Ontario. I'll bet a big part is the cost of electricity!!! I know this borders on political, but I wonder who we can point the finger at about that .

Bottom line is.....more really good paying jobs lost that will never come back :(. Our manufacturing section is taking a shit kicking like crazy.
