the problem has been discussed before but not as a result of idling a long time with the AC on........check out this thread...it might help.

No way should the car be overheating, even idling at 95 deg. If this was a stressing condition, then people could never be in a traffic jam in Texas.

I hope the OP follows up and tells us what was found.

The car needs to go to the dealer to be inspected. Sounds almost like the fans didn't come on or the coolant level is low causing the issue.

Idling for extended periods of time does not hurt anything and certainly should not cause over heating of a properly functioning new car.

Back in the 90's my uncle was involved in hot weather testing for GM. While I can't say that GM still does this today. One of the hot weather testing practices was to drive the prototypes aggressively on desert roads in southern CA then immediately park the car nose first in a metal shed in the blazing sun with the air running and let it idle for hours in 100+F heat. If the car overheated then it was back to the drawing board.

Long story short..... Something caused the car to over heat and it wasn't letting it idle with the air running.

Never idle a car with the air on for more than a couple minutes. Even a brand new one.
Come to FL and try convincing people of that.

True, the cooling system can handle idling witout overheating and I concur that he has a low coolant or electric fan failure.

Mostly true but with prolonged idling on a regular basis, I would be concerned about intake valve carbon fouling in a DI engine.

I'm sitting in my car idling in 95 degree ambient with a blower and an air to air ntercooler with my A/C on, in my black car. As I do regularly for 30minutes plus at a time..

The way my car is driven I'm not sure carbon stands a chance lol..

Dealer will make it right OP!

Even brand new cars aren't meant to idle that long. Good grief!

Now, what SPECIFICALLY is going on with the A/C? "Acting odd" doesn't help troubleshooting. What EXACTLY is the A/C doing now that it didn't do before this?

She should take it to the dealer and have them check everything out. Hopefully if there's any problems they'll cover it under warranty.
LOL. Where do some of these people get this nonsense from?

BTW if you put coolant in your oil it will help with overheating.

I think this guy nailed it. Before you even go to the dealer pop the hood with the A/C on and see if the fans are running. The A/C won't even work if the fans aren't running when the car is standing still. The A/C compressor will short cycle on the high pressure cutoff. You can usually hear this happening. This sounds like your problem. Since you have no A/C and engine overheat at idle, there is a shared component that failed-- the fans.

Issues are separate. 1) sounds like a problem that needs to be fixed. 2) it's not generally good to idle the engine for long periods of time, regardless of the temp
