Camaro V6 Exhaust Question

Hey there everyone.

Here's the breakdown. I want a new exhaust system for my 2018 V6 Camaro RS. What is Non NPP? (I have dual tips) I know it has something to do with having dual valves or something. So with that being said can I convert it into a NPP? Or does NPP even matter? I looked at exhausts and I like the Borla S-Type for my Camaro. So if someone can shine some light on this and tell me what exactly I need to order or drop some info that would he greatly appreciated.

NPP is a valved exhaust system, that makes the exhaust loud or quiet based on the mode you select. On your touchscreen radio, go to driving settings, and if there is an engine sound management menu, you have it.

It would be hard to go to NPP if you don't already have it. If you do have it, you can buy a non-npp exhaust, and when you install it, move the valve wire harness out of the way (tape it up) and pull the NPP fuse in the fuse panel. But you'll lose NPP functionality (obviously).

That's the basics, searching on each one of the topics is your best idea.

Believe me I've searched far and wide about this NPP stuff. I just checked and I have a Non-NPP Camaro. I just want my car to be louder than it's stock self. So when looking to buy a new exhaust it's as simple as purchasing a Non-NPP exhaust right?

P.S. sorry for the newbie question I just purchased my first car and I would like to get into the community more.

Don't blame you, the non-NPP exhausts are pretty quiet.

Yep, simple as that. Just buy a non-npp exhaust. I'm not sure if it's the same for the V6, but the V8's you have to cut the factory muffler off if you install an axleback, it's likely the same for the V6.

Yep, that is correct. I upgraded my exhaust to the GM V6 performance exhaust (which is manufactured by Borla by the way). I emailed Borla and they confirmed that it is built by them, the equivalent of their Touring sound which is very slightly louder than stock. I'd go more aggressive (Sport or ATAK) if I did it again. Even the GM version axle back required cutting out the old muffler and clamping in the new.

So you've determined you want a new exhaust now the next question you need to ask is what your budget is and whether you want a full cat back exhaust or just an axle back. Each has their pros and cons. Cat back is usually more expensive and is a more difficult install. Axle back is cheaper but requires cutting into the stock exhaust which makes it a bit more complicated to go back to stock if you find yourself wanting to.

Listen to YouTube clips and go to some car shows and look for V6's with exhausts. Do not get caught in the folly that you are some how magically going to make a V6 sound like a V8, it just doesnt work that way.

Have fun and find the sound you like best!

I'm doing stuff to it as I go given the budget I have (me saving a couple hundred a month) , this would be my first big modification to my car and I want it to be nice and done right. I'm 20, this is my first car and I just want my EDD to sound better than stock and look nice for now.... If I want the go fast speed later I'll search for a V8, but in due time.

The MRT V2 axleback was super popular on the 5Gen Camaro. Check out their version for the 6Gen here. Good sound and its not over the top and it's for non NPP cars. Save with code CAMARO6.

For sure! It may be a while as my car wont be here for a bit, and I don't plan to change out the exhaust just yet. I want to get mostly through my break in period before I change it so im not tempted to step on it all the time lol
