Cool, thanks.

When I get my ZL1 1LE solid rear cradle bushing put on next week, I am going with the track alignment, even though I only drive on the street.

I do a fair amount of canyon carving and on/off ramps, and with only 2K miles on the car, I can already feel a little drop off in front end grip compared to when new because the outer edges are wearing faster that the inner edge.

I want that grip back and the tires to wear more evenly, however I don't want it darting all over the freeway.

can anyone confirm the size of this bolt...10mm or 12mm ? I'd like to get a grinding burr close to the correct size. I've looked up the bolt and nuts, but GM doesn't show the actual sizes.

Thanks

What's the wrench size?

Link to a table that cross-references wrench size to nominal fastener size

I don't have a car to measure, I'm assisting a friend soon. I'll probably just get a 10mm burr.

The strut bolts are a lot bigger than that. The nut was 24mm wrench and the bolt head might have been 22mm wrench? For reference, caliper bolts are 14mm thread and 18mm wrench.
Bring a BFH to knock the bolts out, the splines fit snug in there.

Hey folks - how does the bolt for the strut come out? The nuts came off fine but I wasn’t able to get the bolt out. Didn’t want to just pound it out for fear of messing up the threads. I see the BFH comment above but is that really it? No problem messing up the threads?

Yeah, the bolts have splines to prevent them from turning. There's probably a way to press them out, but the BFH works just fine. I don't recall any thread damage on my bolts.

Maybe thread a nut down on the bolt threads but not so far that the bolt sticks through it. The idea here is to prevent peening over the ends of the bolts or screwing up the threads if you miss.

I'm at -2.0 at the moment and have pretty severe outside wear (About 4 track days at Sonoma within 5000 miles total). I've read others have had good experience at about -2.9. Seems about right to me based on the wear pattern plus the fact that I get some understeer in the slower corners. Any counter arguments?

Thanks for posting this. Excellent Easy Mod for folks who track. Will improve bite and save rubber.
Had been killing the outside edges maxed out.
Very happy with these alignment numbers.

Working this mod now. This BFH from Wally World worked great getting those bolts out.

Exactly. Camber plates are completely unnecessary if you ask me. 32k miles on my car now and my car feels like new still (with 10k+ track miles, many with slicks), did this mod @ sub 5k miles, no issue whatsoever. GM knocked it out of the park with our cars.

I calculated you need to enlarge the slot about .03" to get 0.4 more degrees of camber? How much did you guys remove. I'm thinking .05" to be safe.

I did about 2mm to get -3.1 before camber plates. Only reason i got camber plates was to run 18” wheels with a reasonable (5mm) spacer. For those who run 19 and 20” this is great, i had to do both.
