Transmission Fluid Alternative for the A10...Amsoil!

I know this post won't be met with much confidence but there is an alternative to the GM ULV for our A10 transmissions. Signature Series Fuel-Efficient Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid by Amsoil is the answer. Their page lists this fluid as approved for use in the 10 speed automatic for GM and Ford.

With their "easy pack" quarts, it is actually simple to add the fluid when it is time. Of course you have to add the fluid through the little fluid check orifice which is a PITA. Buy 8 quarts but my suggestion is to use 7 to begin and adjust from there. Do not overfill this transmission!

Yes, I am using this fluid now but didn't want to post until I was the "guinea pig" and had at least a track day under my belt. The transmission behaved flawlessly and I never had any problems whatsoever. The temps were nearly the same but I was at a different track. I don't have an apples to apples comparison for temps.

Below are a few pics from the Amsoil site for reference...I hope this helps someone as this stuff works great!

Did you paddle shift or leave it in auto when tracking it?

I like to use the paddles. In "D" the car sometimes hunts or upshifts at bad times. Some swear by the automatic shifting algorithm but I am not a fan. The ZL1 1LE may have a different program.

Thanks for the tip, and I'm a believer in Amsoil products, but when I need a trans fluid change I'll get it flushed at a reputable dealer and of course they only use what the service manual calls for

Not a fan of partial drain and fill. The torque converter needs to be flushed out.

What's wrong with the GM fluid?

Good point. That ran though my mind when I changed the fluid on my A8. I changed the oil in the pan and replaced the filter. Next, I drove it around town to mix the fluid up. Got back home, and swapped the oil in the pan one more time. I have heard of bad experiences with flushes and wanted to DIY. I suppose if twice wasn’t enough, it could be done again. I’m comfortable with it though

I used this for my Z07 with A8 and dont have any problem with it. This is a lower viscosity ATF and match OEM ATF's viscosity.
I don't know what the A10 calls for viscosity tho, so you need to double check to make sure. It might be too thick.

Repeated drain and fill is better but a huge pita.

Flushes are always superior *IF* you keep up with the service intervals. Flushes can cause more harm than good in the case of older transmissions that haven't been serviced and the fluid is already shot. See this video at 2:45 in

When you are tracking the car, what are your trans fluid temps like? Do they peak and hold, or are they constantly increasing? Mine slooooowly climb (30+ minutes) to 200-205 degrees F on the street in 90 degree ambient temps.

they slowly climb in my experience...the longer on track the hotter it gets...especially if the circuit is tight and lots of shifting occurs. Max is 230 or so when ambients are 93-95°. Summit Point Main is worse than VIR Full for transmission temps. Lap times are 1:22 at Summit Point vs 2:03 at VIR with two long straights at VIR to allow cooling.

This Amsoil is approved for ULV service as per the info above in the pics.
