BRAND NEW ZL1 Died on highway...help

So I got to pick up my beautiful 2020 6-speed - Magnetic Gray ZL1 yesterday down in PA. Threw on my track armor on the front end and hit the road to enjoy a nice, slow break-in cruise home to New Hampshire. Having a GREAT day. Then, all of a sudden half way through Connecticut - BOOM - Car starts lurching, i lose ALL throttle power, can't accelerate and BARELY make it to the breakdown lane.

No check engine light, nothing. Turn the car off - Go to turn it on just endlessly tries to turn-over (like it's about to fire up) but never does. Still had well over a quarter tank of fuel. Engine temp was normal.

Sat on the highway for two hours, then had to pay $650 cash to get towed back to the dealer in NH.

I am beside myself. Totally frustrated and don't know what to do...anyone have advice??

Brand new car doing that sounds like a first on this forum. No error codes or other warning lights to mention? With lurching I would guess it's a fuel pump issue. Ask the dealer for an OBD 2 scan report, they should have something already.

GM doesn't provide roadside assistance on new cars?

Next time hit the OnStart button and request (free) roadside assistance to get towed to the dealer.

Oh, I did my friend - COVID has ruined everything. I live in New Hampshire - I was stranded in CT. They would only tow 25 miles max. And the dealer isn't allowed to do loaners or rentals because of this goddamn virus. So I would have had to tow to a CT dealer then have no way of getting home. It was horrendous.

They do - but on-star doesn't really have a tow answer for someone who is stuck out of state. If you want a tow to your local dealer its BIG money!

Keep a ten mm socket or wrench in the car to remove negative battery cable. Unhook for five minutes reattach and start car, has happened to me twice after extended idle.

That sounds like BS to me. I mean for crying out loud, you just picked up your car.

Looking at the warranty guide here, I didn't see anything about out of the state.

Dude, I am putting my boot up everyone's ass today. How do you spend 60K dollars on a goddamn car that breaks down the first day you buy it, and have people talk to you like "Sorry bro, it's your problem" If they don't fix this, I'm lawyering up.

I got a tow for free when I got a flat. OnStar service was actually pretty great in my interaction. Some other people here did as well.

And flat tires are not really manufacturer's fault so I don't see why you can't get a tow for something that's definitely the car's fault.

Sent from toaster or something

I parked right next to your car this morning in the service lot, when I brought mine in for service work too. Sorry to hear that this was a brand spanking new car already having an issue. Nobody should have to carry a 10mm wrench with a brand new car. However, wonder if the reset would of helped in this case? I originally thought maybe your car was brought up from PA on some dealer exchange deal. Definitely keep us posted what they end up diagnosing in this case. Hope things work out!
