As more oils get certified for either dexos2 or dexosR, I will begin considering running 0W-40 because the pricing will get a bit better with more competition in the market. Until then, I will run 5W-30 dexos1 Gen2 oil and lose zero sleep over it.

Valvoline dropped their Dexos certified 5w40, and I don't really see an increase in Dexos certified oils other than the thinner grades like 0w30 and 0w20.

0W-40 and 5W-30 are really the ones that matter most for the Camaro's. New Camaro's "require" 0W-40 dexosR or 5W-30 dexosR for the LT1 motor which is fine except that there's no such thing as 5W-30 dexosR certified oil.

There's nothing wrong with 5W-30 dexos1.

As we see more oils actually hit the dexosR list, the dexos2 0W-40 oils are likely to come down in price because so many people will move to the dexosR version (including dealerships). That's the piece I was really focused on.

AS of January 2023 Amsoil Signature 0W-40 meets or exceeds the DexosR specifications. About $12 per quart if you pay for preferred pricing.

Apologies for answering an older post I found earlier in this thread, but I thought it might still be useful to some members.

They switched to Mobil 1, 0w - 40 ESP (Emission System Protection) because owners who tracked their cars and didn't switch back to 5w - 30 right after their track session were burning up their catalytic converters and GM didn't want to pay to replace anymore.
I heard stories (from my dealership, Simpson Chevrolet, here in SoCal) about owners who tracked their cars, drove them home, and before they got home their cats were destroyed. The story goes GM tried to deny the warranty claims but lost. Given the source you can take or leave the info, but I didn't want to take any chances.

I ordered a new 0w - 40 oil cap and switched to that oil. I was getting my oil from eBay at first but now you can get it on Amazon. I have a 7500 lbs. car lift in my garage and do all my own work on the car so switching wasn't a big deal. I haven't had any issues running 0w - 40 ESP oil here in SoCal so that's what I'm sticking with for now.

Hey everyone...new to the forum and ZL1 ownership. Now doing a first oil change and will be using ESP x3 but will change again soon to M1 Supercar DexosR. Just noticed the GM spec is posted as meets or exceeds D2. Any other info would be appreciated. Haven't yet opened my LT4 WOT at 700miles lol.

That will be fine, just make sure you switch over to the whatever type oil they recommend in the manual this week, for warranty reasons. I knew I was going to void my warranty instantly so I use amsoil. When supercar came out it was Unobtainium in my town.
