What brake pads for low noise/dust
I have a 2017 ZL1 with about 20,000 miles on it. OEM pads are on there right now and man are they sqeaking and dusty.
I need new pads and i really hate the OEM pads because they are so dusty and loud...had the same issue with my 2014 ZL1 before i upgraded to the 2017. I know there are a TON of posts on this but here is what I am looking for. I never track the car, always street with a little spirited driving. I really don't go crazy in the car. What would someone suggest as the best pads for low noise, dust for my situation. Thank you for your help everyone! |

Are you the original owner? Cause every OEM pad ive heard of is silent, they do dust but not terrible for me.

OP: Your discs or pads are contaminated w/ grease and/or need a good bedding. I never had a squeak with the OEM pads. Dust, on the other hand, was copious.
Bedding procedure from the manual: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/attac...hmentid=849033 I put powerstop Z26 (1053/1835) pads on my car at 1k miles. I have 6k miles since the change and only a light squeak from the back when pulling out of the garage when cold, most likely because I didn't transfer the shim plates from the rear OEM pads. Once the rears warm up at the end of the block they're silent. And they make no dust at all on Gtechniq-coated wheels. |

I switched back to stock from the Powerstops. They ruined a set of rotors because they were so hard. The rotors warped and wore very unevenly.
I hate the dust, but I like good performing brakes. |

Powerstops here. 13k miles with zero issues. A little less initial bite but absolutely fine. They are not for tracking. My rotors are fine.

I’ll be doing this as well. I don’t track the car but I do go to the drags every few months. I have BC forged wheels and by the time I roll a block away they are covered in dust.
On another note, I have never experienced squeaking of any kind with the current OEM pads. |

I put the power stops on mine. Then took them off. Not worth the loss of braking performance

Original owner yes. I spoke to the dealer and they suggest a good power washing between the pads and the rotors. That worked very well. Now I just have to do that every once in a while.

Most squeaks with Brembo brakes are not pad related, but rather the pins. The SS sedan actually has a bulletin out for this issue. Wouldn't surprise me to see on for Camaro soon. Cleaning the dust from pads will give temp relief because the pins are also cleaned during this. There is a special lube for the pins that gives a somewhat more permanent solution, but will still need to be done periodically. Been dealing with Brembo brakes for a couple of decades, this isn't new.

Another vote for powerstops, the 10000% less dusting was worth a little braking performance, you'll know the difference if you aggressively stand on those pads though.

Is this the norm on the ZL1? I know I only have the 4-piston Brembos on the SS, but the pads are practically noiseless. Brake dust is a thing, yes, but noise? (I had the wheels ceramic coated and don't give a rat's ass about the dust, super easy to clean and I don't mind a bit of elbow grease.)
