1/4 chunks on the lobes. one had like 1500 miles on it. he was putting it back stock to sell . and a big 3/8 chuck was gone. few others on on the ends were flaired up and couldnt even install past the bearings. this has been seen by diff installers in the last lil bit around here. i dont want to scare anyone just letting it be known. one caused a guy 5300 bucks in damages.
comp told one of the installers that the cam with the flaired up end . just take it to a machine shop and let them fix it. lol needless to say he had a bunch boxed up and shipping back to them for them to inspect

dont get excited just yet, just kinda seeing if anyone else is seeing this problem. it could be just a quinkydink.
plus there are some still doing good that been installed . dont know if was just a fluke or what kinda why i was asking on here. i remember reading a tread not long ago on here a guy had a problem getting past the 3rd bearing and thats part of whats being seen around here. then some are just coming apart like i said.

Generally this is the result of the installer not porperly degreeing the cam, and more common not setting up the valvetrain geometry correctly. Pushrod length cannot be determined in advance. It can only be done after the heads are at final torque and them proper preload is measured for. Most ues whatever length the cam supplier guesses at and that is a crap shout, so what happens is the lifters get hammered to pieces and then hammer the lobes apart.
Not Comps defect at all, its the installers. |
