I agree, sometimes 1- 2 - 5

I'd like to see what the short shifting feels like in the 1LE. After 19k of driving cross country last year, I've had my stupid moments, but it's been a great first manual car. I do notice that the cars fluid does like to be nice and warm, otherwise very its really clunky.

I changed my tranny fluid rather quickly to the Mobil 1 Synth and it really helped make shifting even smoother.

I tend to shift 1, 3, 5 but sometimes just love the sound of Sport mode reaching for 3k RPM and will shift 1, 2, 4. However its not long before I eventually need to go to 5th for typical speed cruising.

I've driven a manual before and they're fun to drive but I wasn't sure whether to go with manual or auto. I love downshifting to 3rd at about 50 mph and going through the gears. Mine is a vert, so I can hear that beautiful sound loud and clear. Another thing I've started doing is as I'm passing someone on the interstate, pull beside them at about 68, downshift to 4th, and accelerate. It's like making music. So fun!

4th? Oh you really need to try 3rd!. That puts the RPM's right where the power is.

I have to agree, I like to down shift to 2nd when I'm merging into a highway and then row throigh the geara and down to 3rd if I'm already at high speeds

The clutch is definitely lighter on the Camaro, I heard removing the helper spring on the pedal will help give you more feedback but I haven't tried it yet in fear of messing with the throw out bearing. But I know a less strong spring or removal all together is a common mod on the current Mustang's.

I too got spoiled by the rev matching on the Z, I hit the paddle every time I get in the Camaro as habit now to turn it on.

good for you guys

first of all kudos to all you people who purchased the manual.
you cannot acquire a full experience of a sports car unless it is a manual.
and this manual is very easy to drive and very forgiving compared to the other 9 manual cars I have owned.
you guys did the right thing with learning how to drive a manual.

funny story, the Chevy dealer I bought my car from did not know how to drive a manual. I would have fired that guy. lol

I (and my SO) find this manual very easy to drive. The 350Z and the Subaru WRX were both far more notchy and vague to row through the gears. I find the rev match to work well. It is better than I am, when I choose to leave it off and practice a little heel and toe work. It is easier to shift than the 3 - 4th Gen F-Bodies that I owned ('96 LT1 / 98 LS1 / 2000 SLP Firehawk) and those older 6 speeds.

Hard to shift?? Try a 1969 Dodge 3/4 ton 4 speed with first being the granny 1st gear. I took my driving test in that. Try driving a RTO 9513 (Rear drive / Twin screw / Overdrive / 950 pound feet / 13 forward gear ratios) for a while. Was easier to shift without the clutch.

I test drove a 1LE and then a 2SS auto, needless to say, I came home with the 1LE. The auto was nice, but it seemed like I was just driving any other car, I like to be more involved and know in the auto I would eventually get bored of it.

I don't feel sorry for you cry babies about the older hard shifting manuals in the Z or whatever ... you should've try to drive an MG Midget back in the '70s .... no first gear synchronizer - you had to come to complete stop to shift into first !
