Ugly discovery on my new SS 1LE

Picked up my new 2018 SS 1LE just over a week ago and over the weekend decided to put on some rock guards and black lug nuts.

This is what I came across on the back side of my passenger front wheel:

I guess I'm headed to the dealer soon.

Trailer off-loading damage. Get a new wheel and tire from the dealer.

Honestly that is no big deal at all. Just touch up the paint to prevent corrosion, and the tire is fine. I have had little chunks like that taken out of low profile wheels/tires many times.

Well, the fact that he had the car for a week could prove to be an issue. But, it won't hurt to try.

The tire is NOT fine. Impact was hard enough to cause a crack from the sidewall right into the tread area. The tire structure is damaged and NOT repairable.

It is a big deal to a new car owner. Plus the tire damage is next to the bead...could be dangerous.

I had a chunk taken out off a tire when my new (back in the disco era) Z-24 was unloaded from the trailer, and the dealer did not hesitate to replace it. The OP's problem is obviously not from a pothole but from a sharp edge like a trailer ramp.

Not all dealers are idiots or ogres, so I encourage the OP to take it to the dealer.

BTW, that V-6 powered Z-24 was no slouch.

I won't trust this tire either. There a crack coming from where the chunk is missing

Just got word from my sales person, they are ordering a new wheel and tire.

Stand-up dealer!

My purchase experience through this dealer was great. Nice to see they stand behind their sales.
