2019 ZL1 1LE first oil change?

Does the new 2019 need the break in oil change at 500 miles? The dealer said it doesn't need to be done on the 2019. If that's correct, is there any harm in changing it out anyway?

If it doesn't need to be changed at 500 miles, I will probably wait till 1K.

My question would be 'what has changed from 2018 to 2019 to change the so-called need for the first oil change at 500?'

I have an appointment on Tuesday for my first oil change at 500 (actually it will be closer to 700 mi). I will be there anyway for some minor chip repairs on the rear diffuser that appear to have been caused at the factory when installing the exhaust.

Not sure if 2018 was loaded with 0-40W ESP Dexos 2 oil from factory, but 2019's are.

When I went for the oil change, they told me to come back at 5.5K miles for the next one. I told them I was coming back at 1.5K and they all had that look on their face of WTF. And, that was before telling them I wanted to change the tranny and differential oil.

All up to you but... typically (and this is on any new car I have owned), I go 500, 1500 then every 3000-3500miles max. I save every filter and mark the miles on its base when doing a oil change.

Just one humble opinion here but, come the day to move on from her, someone will ask for records. When I look at a car with oil changes at 3500 vs 7500+ each time... its a no brainer. (Even at 3500 miles on a drain, the oil is black... doing what it should but, pours like water). Safe insurance in the long run for the cheap price of oil. (In-fact I'm doing my car, again, before HPDE next weekend... 15w50 is $22.50 5/qt bottle at Walmart)

But honestly, the dealers that say it is a waste and "The manual says....", walk away, they are clueless.

ENJOY THE NEW CAR!

I’d change the oil at 500. It’s got contaminants the filter isn’t going to capture. I always do the first oil change on a new car within 1000 miles regardless of the dealer’s opinion.

I had mine done at 800mi (oops).
My 2018 ZL1 1LE did not come with 0-40W ESP Dexos 2 but I had them put it in. They charged me for the $ difference.

The dealership didn't know anything. They told me the ZL1 didn't need it's oil changed at 500 miles. The service guy didn't even know it came with an LT4. **SIGH**

I have 1300 miles and have done 2 oil changes already. I didn’t realize the differential fluid needed to be change so soon what are the recommended miles for that ?

I changed my '18 at 500 and it currently sits at just over 1500 and I am going to do it again as well as the diff fluid this weekend. It is a new car and new engine, I don't buy the 5k mile routine on a performance car. However, my 2019 Jeep Cherokee fleet vehicle calls for 8k mile intervals and I could care less lol. My personal vehicles usually get changed every 3k or so.

I did a 500mi. first oil/filter change and then a 1500mi. oil/filter and tranny and rear end fluid change, all using PF64 and factory spec fluids. All dropped oils looked good with no excess metal showing. Car doesn't burn oil between what will be my 3500 mile regular oil/filter changes. I also added a heavy magnet oil pan drain plug.

It may be a bit excessive, but I still consider it a worthwhile effort for the relatively inexpensive oil change. I just turned 5k miles, and the car just keeps running better and better.
