Exactly. The majority of people that are going to purchase a bare bones, bargain basement Stingray are those that have no financial intellect and spend their money very frivolously. There is a huge difference between "being able to afford" and "purchasing". I attempt not to judge, because it is ultimately their money, but to strap yourself over a car (or any materialistic item for that matter) is sheer buffoonery. And remember, this is the BASE MODEL. I waited 3 years before purchasing a C7 because I wanted to see what else GM had to offer. Believe me, GM has several upgraded models already engineered and they'll be trickled out in the future. I'll patiently be waiting to see what they may be and my purchase will be made at that time.

The beauty of this situation for me is I LOVE my SS 1LE so waiting for the "better performance version" of the C8, while watching the prices drop and discounts starting to be offered will be easy to do.

So much nicer situation to be in than my previous situation where I couldn't wait to get out of my M3.

Following the reveal, the Next Generation Corvette will hit the road for two national dealership tours that will include vehicle specialists and numerous interactive displays. At these events, Chevy dealers will host customers to showcase the new mid-engine supercar, display customizable parts (seats, wheels, accessories, etc.) and teach people how they can personalize their own Corvette.

“With all the excitement around this vehicle, we don’t want people to have to wait to experience it in person,” said Engle. “Our national tours will bring the Next Generation car right to our customers’ local Chevrolet dealership, where they can start imagining themselves in their very own personalized mid-engine Corvette.”

The tours will begin on the East and West Coasts and stop at more than 125 select dealerships across the U.S. starting after the reveal and extending through early 2020.

"Tour dates and cities will be available starting on July 19."

This transmission...."a manual that shifts like an automatic"...or whatever...

Does this mean that Adaptive Cruise Control cannot be available?

What about Start/Stop?

Did not see any specific info one way or the other....The pics of the steering wheel buttons look like old fashioned cruise-control....just wondering....

They way that DCTs work makes them essentially automated manuals (instead of manualized automatics). If it helps, picture a robot working a stick shift. Thats not accurate, but its a better representation than a traditional torque converter auto that you can take control of.



Anyway, since it can operate fully automatically, there is no reason why adaptive cruise or start/stop (or remote engine start) couldn't be used with it. In fact, I'm sure that such features are pretty common on DCT equipped cars.

Also worth mentioning that Stop Start began in Europe with manual transmission cars.. Hard to find a modern MT car in Europe without it. Developing it for AT was a PITA because of the need to keep the transmission pressurized and in gear with the engine off, as well as the need to manage what happens when the engine starts shutting down, but the driver changes their mind (light changes from red to green).

The pressure thing was probably pretty easy to sort out. Accounting for people? Well, its pretty easy to come up with something that covers most of the things people do most of the time ... its those others the rest of the time that are a devil to deal with. Engineers don't like them very much.



Beyond that, improving city fuel economy by 10ish percent is not nothing. If you live in a city, or have a heavily congested commute, that can save you quite a bit of gas. On the other hand, on a car that only gets taken out at 6am on a Saturday mornings just for a quick cruise around the countryside before getting garaged for another week or two ... it's not going to do much for you.

I wish they would have stuck with the Goodyear F1 SC3 tires with the C8. It does amazing with the ZL1 and SS 1LE.

I think it is a better tire over the Michelins. Not sure why they put Michelins on the Corvette and Goodyears on the Camaro

The Corvette has never come with SC3s. They've had Michelin exclusively since the C7 was launched.

GM works with manufacturers to design the tires for the car. There's a reason they went with Michelin over Good Year. Could be their relationship with the race team. Could just be that they feel the michelins are better on the Corvette. I'm just glad they're finally offering an all season performance tire for Corvette.
