I have came and used this site and Camaro5 for lots of help so here I'll try and contribute back to the community the best I can. Also I know there has been some debate about the safety and worth of this mod. I'm not getting into all that just trying to help those who want to do it.

Tools needed
T50, T20, Extensions, Ratchets, flashlight, Drill and few Drill Bits, 10mm socket or wrench.




Step 1
First off always disconnect the negative teminal on the battery using a 10mm. Its loacted in the trunk behind the little service flap on the right side. (The seats have air bags and don't need anything happening while working)


Step 2
I moved both seats as far forward as they would go to expose the bolts holding down the seats (there are only 2 bolts that hold each seat down, the fronts of them are "hooked" into the floor that you will see, pictured.)





Step 3
Remove the 4 bolts using a T50, ratchet and extension. Then under the seats, each one has a wire connector that needs to be disconnected. As you can see they have a little red tab that has to be pulled back and this allows the big black leavers to be pulled open to release the plug.





Step 4
With that being done go ahead and pull out the seats, this part may be easier with 2 people to not damage things but I was able to do it myself. Yes the seat belt is still attached, I will show where I believe it comes apart at but I was able to do it all with it still attached.




Step 5
Now you need to "open up" the seat to expose the pins that prevent the seat from reclining further. Use cardboard or carpet to protect the finish of the seats while moving them around. As pictured each side of each seat has a plastic cover. Now use the T20 socket to remove a total of 3 screws from each seat. ( the one cover has 2 and the other you remove only 1 and are able move it around to expose it)





Step 6
With those covers removed you now want to open up the fabric/leather of the seats. There are zippers on each side that I unzipped about half way up. There are 2 hooks under each seat I unhooked. Also 1 long plastic clip that I used a small flat head screw driver to gently pop/pry apart. All this helps expose the pins you are going to be removing.









Step 7
Now you can see the pins (screw driver pointing to what they look like in picture) that need to be removed (total of 4, 1 each side of each seat, some people only drill out 1 on each seat and then "snap" the other with body weight/power of the motor but I would not recommend that). There are many ways to go about this part. I used a drill with a small bit then gradually made the hole bigger untill I seen the pin was no longer attached. I seen some people use grinders which I wouldn't recommend as the sparks may damage things but this part is at your own discretion.





Step 8
With those pins all removed it is time to put it all back together basically reversing each step. Also now may be a good time to clean/vacuum under your seats. I tried to include everything if you have any questions or want to add something feel free! Thanks.

Very nicely done! There’s already a diy on this in the diy section. Maybe a mod could add this, or you could post in there too, or ask a mod to move it.

Fair enough, wish I came across that thread when I was searching for how to do it.... seen a few bits and pieces here and there but not that one. The more pictures and details the better I guess lol. Future people can compare notes.

Thanks for the write up.. For clarity, on step #7, you refer to pins. I see kind of a spot weld where your screwdriver is. Are the pins internal? One on each side of the seat? Or does the seat have 4 pins total. thanks. -John

I'm gonna guess the motors are too weak to lift fat people back up from that far back and they were worried about lots of burnt out motors needing repair under warranty and class action lawsuits

Is removal of the ZL1 1LE Recaros the same? Don't need the recline addition. Just need to remove the seats for another job.
