What tires actually dead hook for 1/4 mile?

I’ve got triple r’s for the street and 1/2 mile and some supercar tires for the road course, but thought I’d try the qtr mile after not running a car down one for 15 years and the triple r’s sure don’t work the same as the MT full drag slicks on the 67bbc of you’re with 1.39 short times.

So what does actually hook on these cars?

No subject has been discussed here more than this one. If you're looking for a rear tire only for the strip, then the most popular tires are MT ET Street (bead lock), Nitto 555Rii drag radial, and Toyo R888R. I'm currently using Toyos, which are a track tire, because they are good on every surface except wet/cold. I'll buy the NT 555 RII, P345/30R19 if and when it becomes available again. I might change to a 20" wheel.

The Mickey Thompson ET Street R is a Bias Ply Drag Tire, while Mickey Thompson's D.O.T.-approved ET Street S/S (Street/Strip) Radial Tire can be driven on street or strip. I tried the "R" tire in 2021 and 2022 and did not like the soft sidewall feel on the street or strip. I have not tried the S/S.

I’m fixing to buy my first set of tires. I have P4S AS ZP’s that came with the car. Looking at 285 or 295 up front. And 315 or 325 on rear of stock rims on ZL1 20” I guess. I’m thinking of going with P4S for front and maybe 888 or 555 on rear. Not sure what to do.

I do not believe the 555RII is available right now

The G2 is available on tire rack wondering how they would be. I had some 555 on my RX7 and they were great.

The G2 is a regular everyday tire, aka little league compared to the RII. Don't even give it a thought if you want superior rear traction with your ZL1.

You are partially correct. I have been unable to find the NT555RII in 305/30R20... However, the 305/35R20 is available from several sites including Amazon.

I am running this size on my 2018 ZL1. But if you are holding out for the 305/30R20, discount tire has them on back order.

I’m not super familiar with the difference on them if anyone knows please share. I looked and really came up empty they look the same to me. Maybe it’s a compound thing?…

Yes….it’s a totally different compound. I’ve had both the Nitto 555 G2 and the 555 RII. They are not even in the same ballpark. The G2 is a horrible rear tire. And as most of us agree, the RII is a good all around tire and a true drag radial & what most of us higher HP guys run on the street. I do run the G2 on the front as it matches the tread of the 555RII.

A lot of recommendations here for a street tire when OP said he wants a 1/4 mile tire. There are none better than the MT Street R.

I also have the Toyo’s in 345,s love them. Curious when it’s 50-60 degrees out, IF you even drive your car then, what psi do you use. I’m guessing your tuned so I l know at wot your not hooking at the summer psi around 27 28 psi I was thinking around 22 23 psi in those temps??
