perfect fabric pen for DIY cloth stitching

ok well i just had this great thread typed out, then i hit the X on the tab switching from tinypic to the forum... really need an autosave on here i can't be the first one to do something this stupid

anyways i'll summarize...

i started with the decomarker (http://www.artsupplywarehouse.com/fi....php?id=263205), you can use it on the cloth if you cut the tip into a triangle, and just dab and glide really carefully. however this will take you forever and i got lucky by losing by cap and having the marker dry out overnight after i'd done 1 strip in the backseat. i got the marvys FINE TIP MAKE SURE U GET THE FINE TIP (http://www.uchida.com/p-102-fabric-m...ush-point.aspx). the fatter tip stains the cloth as much as the deco would, but the fine doesnt. idk why but the fine tip doesn't stain the seats at all really, it made coloring the stitching a breeze.

the color is slightly duller with the marvys, but it's honestly so negligible i just went with the marvys over the deco 90% of the time. if you want the color of the deco with the accuracy/neatness of the marvys, color in the middle/bulk of every stitch with deco and use the marvys to fill in the delicate areas where the stitch goes into the seat. anyways ill post a pic where one strip is deco and the other is marvys, if you can tell the difference and its huge to you, do the the bulk technique. honestly in real life the color difference is negligible to me so i just went with the marvys and i think it looks great.

whenever either tip u decide to use gets dull, just use scissors to sharpen em up. and before anyone blames me for dissatisfaction with the color or whatever(i only used red), try it on 1-2 stitches in the back or in a cuddy spot and go from there. i'm fully satisfied with the job i did, if you don't like it dont do it

here's some iphone 5 pics in the dark, best i can do atm

one strip in this pic is deco, the rest are marvys, good luck guessing which (answer below pic)

the bottom left where u sit ur ass is deco, everything else is marvys; no real difference in color to me

Nice write up. I did mine in blue but I never finished the backseat and since moving lost my pen. Will have to order another, or go to hobby lobby looks great!

I did this last week with the Uchida link and fine tip. It works perfectly and all the OCD worries I had about uniformity or getting it on the threads is gone once you do it. It just works as advertised above...Looks great. Get 3 pens for a car. pic looks faded but that's cam, it's very red.

What color was your stitching before? I have red stitching now and want to change it to green but think that a green pen wouldn't turn out green ontop of a red stitch?

Thoughts?

Marvy coloring looks good.

From a color purist standpoint in equal parts, red + green = yellow, yellow + blue = green, your results may vary...
