First nasty nick

So I've had my car for 5 months and just got a nasty nick on the front bumper, just below and to the right of the bowtie. Does this seem like something that a body shop will want to do a full bumper paint job or could it be repaired just around that area?

If that's how you feel about it youre in for a whole lot of painted bumpers. Touch it up and buff it a little. Will never look like "new" again and will never be your last one.

I just ordered some touch up paint but the problem is that the paint is actually pushed forward toward the grill from the impact. It created a little mound. It's a shame, I try my best to avoid this exact thing. I don't even drive on the highway any more.

You're right man. I just wish it didn't happen this soon.

I had worse. Can't find the pictures unfortunately. It was less than 2 months of ownership. Something around 2in wide.

A body shop near me will fix it and repaint half of the bumper by blending it. They did this to my girlfriend's car and the job was amazing. I trust them enough to touch my Camaro haha.

They quoted me 250$ CAD

Crap, 2 inches is huge. I spoke with my local dealership's body shop and they pretty much said the same thing; full bumper and blend job.
I don't think I'm brave enough to one of those paint repairs like I've seen on YouTube either. Terrified to take sandpaper to it.

Yeah, don't do it yourself unless you know what you're doing. I've been repairing my old car myself and I can tell you that if you use the wrong products with the wrong techniques it might turn out bad in a near future.

I think the wise thing to do would be to wait until I get a few more and then have the dealer do a full bumper repair. Lastly I should have a clear bra installed like I should have done when she was brand new. Live and learn.

Good idea. But wait a couple of weeks before applying the clear bra. A fresh paint job needs at least a month before being 100% safe for a wrap.

OP, get 2000 and 3000 grit sandpaper. Use a hole punch to punch a hole in painters tape. Take the 2000 grit sandpaper, a small piece that fits inside the hole. Apple soapy water to the effected area. Rotate the 2000 grit sandpaper in a clockwise/counter clockwise direction with your index finger until smooth. Apply alcohol to the effected area to clean. Replace another piece of punched painters tape over the effected area. Mix a small amount of paint with clear coat. (I mix with the stick part of a ear swap). Apply paint to effected area and let dry. Replace another punched piece of painters tape over the effected area. Apply soapy water Take your 2000 grit sandpaper and repeat the clockwise/counter clockwise motion until smooth. Finish sanding with 3000 grit. Then apply wax. I have done this for small areas such as rock chips, etc and you cannot tell where the effected area is located. The hole in the painters tape will keep you focused on the effected area and minimize the sanding area on your clearcoat.

Thanks oklahomaguy. I saw a YouTube video with a very similar technique. I just might give that a try. If done properly, I think it should look pretty good.
