You're wrong. Everyone special orders their cars, pays roughly msrp and waits half a year for delivery. Everyone.

At the time when some of us orderd this cat there was no way to only add Y3W Technology Package, you had to get the RS too, and bigger brakes and mor, and if your going to use your car as a autocross car you dont want all that... |

I can tell you that right now, there are places (like these guys: https://www.gm-navigation.com/) offering kits for the Silverado, Sierra, Colorado, and others to upgrade the basic i03 and i04 head unites to i05 and i06 units.
I don't think they are doing any work for the Camaro though...at least not yet. My point, is that it can likely be done...at least eventually. But these kits typically go for 500 - 1200 or more. The process usually involves the cost of the new head unit, some module to control the unit and then they have to do some programming using your vehicle's VIN to it first before shipping to you.

Dont these units get over the air updates, maybe tied to VIN? Putting in the upgraded OEM unit or changing the software is a whole other mess...
I would think aftermarket solutions would only involve switching out the LCD screen and bezel. |

The units are VIN coded for features. Changing them out physically is pretty straight forward. The screens are separate components from the HMI (which is the brains of myLink). Gen5DIY can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the HMI just needs to be coded to work with an 8" screen unit. If not then you would have to get an HMI and 8" screen together, then code them to the car's VIN.

But people aren't tearing out their screens...are they? That would be news to me.

It will be more then that amount, the small screen in the camaro uses all new hardware, and will take more time to work out all the hardware/software needed to make it work.

Not yet in the 6th gen, but they've been swapping MyLink systems in the 5th gens for quite awhile. As Gen5diy says, once the process and intricacies are ironed out, I'm sure it'll be done.

And if your state collects TT&L at the dealership, backing out TT&L + doc fee would put the car sales price at less than $17,000 for a 1LT RS. Yea right. MSRP is 30k+ Last edited by wavsine; 05-14-2017 at 08:44 AM. |

The date was October 12th 2016. As I was test driving a 2015 Mustang Ecoboost with my roommate, we fell in love with it. talked to the dealer and I simply could not afford the price tag on that guy so upset as I was we went home. When we got home my roommate saw a post on Craigslist for a 2016 RS turbo Camaro priced at 20k. Car had 600 miles on it. Turns on the guy went bankrupt due to some bad investments owed a lot of money and needed the money that night. Best believe I negotiated alittle bit said I had 18k cash. He agreed immediately, bill of sale made, title was already opened, and that day I had a brand new Camaro in my hands, but it was red and I hate red so it got wrapped, now I want a bigger screen lol do I need to post picture of bill of sale lol?!
