Sounds like Rt. 60 through West Virginia.would be a great ride. Anyone up for that?

As far as The Cherohala skyway (143), Googled it, looks awesome, it is to far away for me from Moneta VA.

I am open to almost any day during the two weeks I will be down that way (10/1 to 10/13).

Lets throw some possible dates and locations around and set up a ride?
The Dragon is no big deal, just don't drive foolishly, and stay in your lane. I'm going this weekend. I agree that 28 is a fun road, I actually liked it better, less idiots to deal with. I plan on hitting Cherohala also, this time around.

The Skyway is right near the Dragon, not too far from there.

I agree, the Dragon is kind of overhyped, especially when there is traffic on it. Skyway is fun, haven't done it in my Camaro yet, drove it back a few years ago.

Driving The Tail of the Dragon is one of those "check the box" events. Drive with some caution, but you can very much enjoy yourself.

We had a great group come over from CamaroFest VII and it was a good time.

Checked it out today. Be sure to check out Tapoco Lodge, food was great!
The best part about the Dragon, they even take your picture!

Nice...I got some awesome pictures last year when I went. The Mountview restaurant at Fontana has some really good food too.

OP you should go on computer to www. AppalachianBackroads.com. This site will give you some ideas also, they will also mail you a map with all the routes and places to see and and eat at. These roads will be closer to you than the Tail of the Dragon, I have not driven them yet but have the map and looking forward to trying them. The map shows 14 different routes to ride on.

The dragon is perfectly fine in car. Don't expect to run unlimited speed, expect a lot of traffic and drive within your means. It's a nice drive. I did it in my 4th gen Camaro and had no issues. Watch out for the idiot motorcyclists riding way above their limits.

Blue Ridge is very slow and quite frankly boring compared to some of the other roads in the area.

I live in NC so yes it was worth the trip.

No harrowing experiences this time. Last time I went I got on the Dragon right when they had found the two bikers who had went over the edge the day before so that was kind of sobering and since they had rescue operation going on I only made the one pass.

The pics for digital are $6-$7

Thanks for the info. I am fairly certain I will get out there and ride it. As someone else posted, it is a bucket list item to check off. I certainly have a different perspective, and respect, for it now thanks to you folks on this site.
