Found a Great Price on a 2018 SS1 but it is a GM Buyback

Hi guys,

I have been a member of this forum for a long time and have never posted. I currently looking for a Camaro and found what seems to be the perfect model. It has very low miles, 590, and looks brand new. I contacted a sales person and he let me know it was a GM buyback. The reason it was bought back was because of a stalling issue. Supposedly the issue has been resolved but my gut is telling me it is a bad idea. It does have a manual transmission so it could have been driver error but I feel like they wouldn't have made a buyback if it were something so small.

Any input would be great and please let me know if this is not the correct place to make this post.

Thanks,

James

It does take while to get use to uber light clutch and poor auto throttle algorithm.

Combo which results in many stalls. Maybe that was cause.. drive it and decide for yourself.

My guess is that is was a case of buyer's remorse. The person thought they wanted a manual but quickly regretted the decision. If it were an auto tranny - I'd walk away. This one being a manual I'd be more inclined to consider it after a thorough test drive to make sure the gears shift smoothly and the clutch operation feels good. Maybe get an independent mechanic to check out the car.

The one area of possible concern would be the clutch may have more wear that normal because the first owner just couldn't get the hang of it and rode the clutch more than normal. My experience is that the clutch is pretty tough and can handle some clutch riding as long as it wasn't all the time for all those 590 miles. Maybe the dealer will throw in an extended warranty for the drive train to give you more piece of mind. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to go check it out and test drive to see if I notice anything. I am also going to take it to a local shop and have them take a look. The dealership confirmed it has the factory warranty still so I am going to consider it.

+1 on the independent mechanic for a used car. Preferably one who does a lot of pre-sale inspections, and knows GM products well. It'll be well worth the $100

Then I would go with your gut. Buyback to me sounds like gambling.
Walk away and save more money for piece of mind.

Is this a dealer buyback or a gm buyback? GM does not participate in buyers remorse, or returning a car because a person didn't like the shifting etc. they only buy a car back if it looks like they would lose the lemon law case and they preempted by re-purchase. Meaning something was mechanically wrong.

Lol. GM doesn't buyback EVEN IF there are serious issues. I doubt they did this without a very serious issue they couldn't fix. Good luck. With GM involved, you'll probably need it

If the title is branded as a Buy Back then run away from it! Banks wont want to finance it and when you go to sell or trade you will run into the same problem!
What does CarFax and Auto Check say? (check eBay for great prices, well below $39.99)
