Sucks so bad.
don't count those chickens yet. You don't know and he don't know how it will play out. Things happen, things change. So you have to stay positive and see how it plays out.

all right, I need some tips from y'all.

Problem 1:I'm a long, lanky, white guy predispositioned, genetically, to be unable to grow biceps.

Problem 2: My girl loves big arms

I have read and read articles about "blasting your guns", but seriously... any tips? My arms are decent now, but they're all tri's. I'm contemplating doing bicep work a little everyday to see if I can turn it around.

Don't do it everyday, you need recovery. If you genetically have small arms, it's not going to change much. You'll always have smaller arms. I always hit biceps a little after back day, and triceps after chest or shoulder day since the muscles are already activated, then one dedicated arm day.

Bump....

Anyone doing the open other than my other half?

After 2 surgeries last year and being out 8 months been back about 3 now. Lost 12lbs...still a long way to go.

Lifts are progressing though slower than I'd like. DL is closest to old at 455, squat is at 385, and bench is at a lowly 300

I'll be doing them occasionally like I did last year. I like 19.1: it punishes people for being dicks/heroes on the rower.
I know people bitched about the changes but I'm interested to see how things settle.

In a way I get it. Makes it more like the Olympics and from a business and profitability standpoint it's a very smart decision.

Other side is that the winners in some countries won't be as good as the 50th place finisher in the US. And it makes it more of a "everybody is a winner" sport which our society has become.

Hasn't affected Monique as of yet because she's in the masters category. This event is for sure not in her wheelhouse because she is short but it's good to get it out of the way.

Hoping to at bare minimum qualify for the Masters Qualifier this year. Qualifying for the games will be tough though with it being cut to top 10 and honestly her Olympic lifts aren't on that level yet.

But about 5 months ago she did her first ring MU and now they aren't a problem. That was the last "hurdle". Been a long 4 years of working on them. Now it's just about raising those Olympic lifts and her work capacity even more.

Good luck to you sir!

Thanks, man! Good luck to you and Monique as well!

I gave this a go this am and ended up finishing 11 cals into round 8. Held a steady 1000-1100 cal/hour pace at 19-20 spm and got off the rower around a minute each time. I just let it do the counting for me. Thankfully, four months of biweekly 5000+m rows taught me how to pace. Attached are my row outputs--I just wish I wore my heart rate monitor.

That’s good! Are you gonna do it again?

Monique went Friday. At 5’2” it’s really not her event and she had an “off day”. Only 17 cals into round 6. She’s gonna go again tomorrow. She needs to get to 247 reps minimum. When I told her that she said “I’m gonna get 285” which I think is a bit much but more power to her.

The top girl in our gym maxes out at 5'1 and she scored 290, and our #2 is 5'2 and hit 277. It CAN be done. The workout is won on unbroken WBs and quick transitions, and lost on the row.

Tell her to get to it!

Haha will do.

Might be a little different here though...this is the 45-49 age group 😂 woman that won the games last year in this division is at 285 now and in 12th as of tonight.

More really just looking for damage control. 247 would be 119th tonight. Top 200 qualify for the qualifier. She’ll have some where she’s much higher.

Minimally better, but better.

236 reps.

Not exactly how we wanted to start this year off in her new age division. Should still be ok. Around 2000 points is where the top 200 cutoff is to qualify for the Online Qualifier. She's in around 750th now so she's "used" a lot of those points already. As long as we can avoid a max effort olympic lift for a workout she should be fine.

Are you just doing it "for fun" or are you in the Open?

Nice!

I'm in it insofar that I wanted to post my score to my gym's leaderboard, otherwise I'm just doing it for fun.

I don't really "do" crossfit anymore. I program strength+conditioning and do it on my own, and drop in weekly for their open gym.
