...Or would they still close the plant and move the CT6 somewhere else?

Nowhere in that press release did it say anything was getting cancelled actually.

With the CT6, if GM said that they were closing (or 'unallocating') Detroit Hammtramck & there are no plans to replace the models being built there, everyone is going to assume that everything is getting killed off. However, the CT6 is also being built in China. So it wouldn't be hard to import the modest number required from China and still shutter the plant in Michigan.
Pretty major news to be just dangled or misunderstood....oh, well....But the still making them in China was pretty much announced at the same time as it was announced to be unallocated....just sayin'....

So how in the heck do we find out what the real, straight story is?

No, but the word "unallocated" was used to sugar-coat the same meaning....I didn't think that was a debatable definition that meant not cancelled.

More than likely it'll get sent to LGR.

GM has already said they don't want to import CT6 from China if at all possible.

Unallocated means the plant isn't getting used. Not that the cars are getting killed.

Ok. Probably the ambiguous industry-speak reason GM might use to possibly still sell Mexican made Cruzes in the US, just not the ones made in Lordstown.

GM said that the Detroit - Hamtramck plant had no allocated product beyond 2019. For the record, this is NOT a confirmation that the plant is closing, but it is a definite step in that direction. Back to the question....Since CT6 is only produced in two plants, D-Ham and a plant in China, the a-s-s-u-m-p-t-i-o-n is that the CT6 is cancelled in the US. People ran with that and GM chose to not correct anybody.

Nope. Part of the reason for listing plants that “have no product allocation” is to prepare them for the likelihood that some or all of them will actually close. But it leaves the door open that one or more of them might actually get product allocated and stay open. There is also some consideration that GM could import CT6 from the plant in China (ala Buick Envision). And there is also some consideration that GM could be looking at producing CT6 at another plant equipped for similar architectures (looking at you, Lansing Grand River). If GM was to say “No, CT6 is not being discontinued” it could lead to a need to discuss which, if any, of the options I laid out are possible. They clearly do not want to do that, so the best recourse is to say.....nothing.

^^ What he said. People are already getting up in arms over this news thinking GM is going to import CT6 from China if/when D-Ham closes. It's why they had to mention in the conversation today that China is essentially an absolute worst-case scenario.

Apparently someone on Instagram found what looks to be a Reg. Cab Short Bed Trail Boss in Mexico.

Quality is more dependant on the systems used to make something than the nationality of the people in the factory. And those standards are set (and enforced) by the manufacturer. For example, Tesla's cars are crap in terms of build quality and built in the good old US of A (in a former GM-Toyota plant). Meanwhile, the Buick Envision is built in China and is as good as any other Buick.

GM has been selling Chinese built CT6's in the US pretty much since the beginning. Every plug-in hybrid CT6 has been built in China.

That part I did not know.

Exactly. What a cluster....Build your new "Flag-ship" car for one year in the US, close the plant that made it, then import a Chinese clone as your Flag-ship.

Sounds like a PR disaster.
