my most ghetto, but favorite addition to my car

My car gets hot. Park in a huge concrete lot every day for work, and no shade.

Black car, black leather...not pleasant to get into each afternoon in this TX heat, even with tinted windows and a windshield shade.

So...I came across THESE on ebay. Unable to spend $100 for some shades, I diy'd em.

Literally, a box, a knife, some tape, few sheets of white paper, and 2 suction cups. Had all that in the garage.

45 min later I had these bad boys put together. Don't have before/after temps inside the car, but it is significantly cooler now! Looks like shit, so I'll eventually 'pretty' em up, but hey, they work!!!

Good idea. What do you do for the rear window?

Well, rear/backseat windows aren't as much of a concern. They're blacked out with 5% tint, and I park, intentionally, with the front of the car facing west, and rear facing east.

So, the early day sun hits the interior, and I'm sure I get heat from that, but I decided that it wasn't worth the effort to crawl in the back every day to put up a shade. That would be a super pain in the backside. I'm sure it would help, but the benefit didn't seem worth the time...not to mention that this was a "hey let's see how it works, nothing bad could come from it" type of impulse thing.

another idea to go along with your shades......before you get out of your car, turn on the A/C FULL BLAST, FAN ON HIGH, COLD as it will go.......then use your FOB and start the car a few minutes before go leave.....or if you park a ways off.....start it as soon as you get it range. I know it helps.....as I'm in South Texas and its frickin HOT!!

OnStar app, please start my car with the A/C on full blast, 5 minutes before I get in.
