Track Preparation

Does anyone have a good guideline for before and after a track day. Just trying to make sure I check all the boxes before my first session. Picked up a 2020 SS 1LE in Oct and plan on hitting the track soon!

Yep, there is the Track Prep Manual, which should have everything you need to know.

In general, it's just about adjusting your tire pressure and make sure everything works, which you would have to go through on a track tech inspection anyway.

One thing I personally would add is getting some better brake fluid. When I took mine to the lapping day, I could feel my brakes becoming squishy after a 20-min session and I wasn't even driving hard(I showed the PDR footage to people and they say that I am way too nice with the brakes). So I would pick up something nicer, like the Motul RBF 600 or RBF 660 if you are more serious. I am on Motul DOT 5.1 because I don't track the car that hard. I am more there for the fun but even then, I don't think the stock fluid will cut it.

I like this method. It's exactly what I did minus the alignment. I had a blast and the car performed flawlessly.

PM your fellow Texan Also, some previous threads here with full lists of how to prep and what to bring etc. If ya dont mind searching a bit.

Make sure the car is beyond its break in period (ref manual), as the ELSD really needs it (incl fresh fluid). Beyond it: proper fresh Dexos2 oil per the manual, DOT 4 brake fluid (Castrol SRF is the best, but Willwood EXP is also excellent), adjust tire pressures before, during and after (per the manual) and do a track alignment if you're serious.

Have fun!

Thanks for all the advice. Yeah I read the manual and it said pretty much the same things. Oil, tire pressure, fluids, etc. I’m excited. About to schedule a session at Harris Hill Raceway and looking at COTA in March with Edge Addicts!

very good info, you think the track warranty could potentially get voided if i change my brake fluid?

Changing the brake fluid is in the track prep guide. Tracking without the DOT 4 is the problem.

As its been mentioned just follow the track rep guide (link above). Some novice drivers don't bother with the track alignment but if you plan on being a regular, we max out the camber some more than others.

I should be there. Definitely recommend time on smaller tracks before you get on COTA

After track day, start thinking about a new set(s) of tires

Great advice, but to put it into perspective, they should last 6-7 days (or even a bit longer for a novice level). But, it is always good to have a set on hand.

Also, completely support a prior comment about not starting out on a track like COTA. Best to find a smaller, slower and safer track potential consequences wise, to get a feel of the car, learn the basics well, etc. Enjoy!
