AY6 Synchro Replacement Cost

Hey guys,
I got a quote on replacing my third gear synchro for $1500, plus an extra $500 in case any other parts need to be replaced. I went ahead and had the transmission dropped, and then was told that it needed a new third gear and synchros for third and fifth. However, the price went up to $3000 as he found out the parts were not available aftermarket and had to be ordered direct from GM. I just want to know if $3000 seems reasonable for dropping the trans and replacing two synchros and third gear. Also, he said that he can replace the clutch for $1100 while the trans is out, otherwise it would be $1800 in the future.
Thanks for any input.

Pretty sure you can buy a brand new transmission for less than $3k...
Yup, just about, GM parts direct: $3,314.99 lol

Sounds like they might be taking you for a ride.
