Rear Flat - lift point question
So I got a flat in the rear drivers side. Big piece of metal, deflated in less than a minute. Non repairable. I happened to pull into a local “garage” with 11psi. Rather than tow it I am just going to have them put a new tire on. Should arrive tomorrow.
1) how should I request he lift it? 2) should I replace both rear tires? I don’t have actual tread depth handy but car has never been tracked, 2877 miles, some aggressive driving but no burnouts. Thanks in advance.

Hey man! Sorry to here that. I recommend you take a look at some videos Matt of Lethal Garage has done regarding this very thing. That’s how I learned. On YT, just search “Lethal Garage Jack points and Jack Stand Locations. Also, there are other YouTubers that have made videos regarding the same. You do want to use the pinch welds and stay clear of the aluminum bits and pieces as Matt points out. Since it’s a rear tire, you could also use the rear subframe cross-member. It’s strong enough. Just be careful near the eDiff and it’s lines. Don’t lift by it by the eDiff. As for the tire wear difference, I wish I could advise. But, I need more info on this myself. There are threads/posts here on the forum about tread wear height difference.
By the way, I live near you (Acworth, but off of Bells Ferry. I’ll be at Caffiene and Octane on Sunday, July 1st (weather permitting) in case you attend. |

Thanks for the info! Just watched the video. I am going to head up to the local garage in the morning and make sure he understands it needs to be lifted from the pinch welds as the frame is aluminum and to use puck/blocks to not crush rockers.
Not making it on Sunday, headed to St Simons for the week. We should definitely get together sometime.

I think the factory tires have a new depth of 7/32". If your surviving rear tire has a depth of at least 5/32" you should be fine. Less than 4/32" and you should probably get a pair of tires.
Oh, yeah. Measure near the middle of the tire as the outer edges have a shallow groove to allow more rubber on the outside of the tire.

I got a nail in one of my rear tires sidewalls at about 2700 miles. I just replaced the one tire.
