Do you have a problem launching your A10 or 6M around town?
With the end of Camaro production getting closer I’ve been thinking about moving from my 1SS 1LE 6M to a ZL1, and I’ve been reading about and talking to owners of LT4-equipped vehicles. The C7s with the A8 don’t count, but almost every owner of a C7 Z06 has complained about how hard it is to launch their 7M in daily-driving situations. I’ve also seen complaints online about rough launches of ZL1s with both the A10 and 6M. My ZL1 would spend most of its time in noncompetitive situations - and I’d prefer the 6M - so here’s the question: Do you have any problems launching your ZL1 with either tranny around town, or have I just encountered a bunch of drivers who can’t manage the power?

Probably the easiest manual I have ever driven. 2010 2SS was easy but the 18 ZL1 is even easier. There is a bunch of folks that never learned on manual transmissions out there.

Here is how I launch my ZL1. I step on the gas and it moves forward. I really don't understand what the issue is. This Camaro is easy to drive like any other car, just have respect for the power.

There is a noticeable bog with the M6 but can be overcome by feeling out the sweet spot between the clutch and accelerator pedal. The A10 autos don’t have this problem when launching. We do have launch control in our ZL1s.

This. The “bog” is pretty easily remedied if you are good with a manual and care enough to experiment with it and expend the effort to learn the technique. I have no issues launching without bogging.

A10 launches great in sport or track mode - it has the slight weave under full throttle at lower speed, but as others have posted that's likely tires/alignment
No question the A10 is faster 0-60, I don't think it's even close. It's also a monster on the freeway A8 is junk by comparison, another reason I sold the SS |

I have no issue launching my Z. Even when my tires life was at it's end I could use launch control with no issue. Like the other guy says it can weave a bit under full throttle at low speed. Recently though I've replaced my tires with the factory ones and got an alignment. Now even at low speeds my car just shoots straight forward. Getting a bit of heat into the Goodyears is crucial.

My A10 has no issues whatsoever when launching with hot tires just hit the gas, now with cold tires just like any other high HP car have in mind that it will get loose a little but that a great feeling once you know how ro control it.
And another plus when your just cruising and that mustang pulls up just double tap the gas pedal and your ready. |

I guess the first thing we need to figure out is what do you mean by having trouble “launching” around town. The ZL1 definitely has a unique off idle clutch engagement. When we first got our ZLE my wife stalled it in the driveway. Some neighbors were out, and she was mortified. We spent a few hours the next day working on clutch engagement and found out it responds better with almost no throttle and a fairly quick release of the clutch. Now the “bog” is a different issue related to attempts at a hard “launch” and likely is programmed into the fuel maps to save clutch/transmission wear. I’m planning to do a baseline dyno in about a month and plan to ask the tuner about whether it’s worth addressing in the factory tune. I also know (think) there is a fairly detailed thread on this forum on the bog issue associated with hard launches but I haven’t taken the time to read through it yet.
