Oil Level at the start of track day
Hey Everyone,
What is the generally preferred oil level before starting a track day/2-day track event? I would assume starting an event with the Oil Level at 50% would be ok but I want to get others opinions on the matter based off oil consumption during track days with these LT1 motors

The oil level should be at the top of the hatch mark. Then just check the level during the event. Bring an extra quart in case you need to top it off a bit. I’ve been to 3 track days so far and my 2020 2SS 1LE didn’t use any oil.

I think it’s full too. Yes I know it’ll expand but it’s more of a gforce pickup tube issue. I think the auto trans also need filled more, have to go back and look at that too.

Start at the top mark. There is nothing to be gained by starting lower.

My car burned oil my first track event at 1700 miles. It hasn't burned anything since (5 trackdays)

I always change my oil before track days and put in exactly 10 quarts with a filter. Gets me to around half to slightly higher on the hash marks. I think if you fill to the top of the hash marks you may be slightly overfilled.

to the top wouldnt be overfilled, itd be filled. and that little extra may help per GM if youre pulling to many G's in a corner so you dont suck up air in the oil pick up.

Good info to pick up on.
I'm running Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta back-to-back so the motor will get a hefty working plus I'll be driving to and from both tracks.

Agreed but in my experience I need to leave the car sitting for serval hours to get an accurate dipstick reading. Mine burns less than a quart per 10 track days so I don't bother to check the level during an event, just before and after each day on track.

Doesn't the performance manual call for an extra quart (total 11) to be added before track use?

Dang, you’re right! Thanks man. I need to get that secret decoder ring from GM. Their guidelines are all over the place…
