Does anyone modify a V6 to get more rwhp
Looking at getting a Camaro V6 due to insurance reasons. Just wondering what people do to them to get more rwhp. I have heard that the newer V6's get under 300whp when on a dyno. Are people modifying to ge them closer to 4oo whp?
Thanks |

Gotta go with forced induction.

From what I've seen your basic bolt on and tuning route gets you maybe another 30 hp or so. To get 400 rwhp you'll need forced induction of some sort

Add our Catch Can system to protect the engine first, and look into the Supercharger and Turbo Charger systems Overkill South has.
Benjamin Reeves has one running 11 flat (as soon as track opens again should be well into high 10's). Cheers!! |

Can you make a post without plugging your catch cans? There are a lot of high mile cars now with no issues needing a catch can so no need to keep forcing it on everyone.

Have you priced out the monthly insurance premium differences? Even if it's a $50/month difference you're probably going to spend more than that a year in bolt on mods.

Why do you think such a huge price difference is there, to begin with?

If your main goal is HP, then might as well start off with V8. No sense going with a V6. The V6 is a great choice for a fun to drive, economical, reasonably powerful car. It's the most economical Camaro- the one to get if you are on a budget. It's the only one that takes regular, cheap gas. I use mine as a commuter and love it.

I came from a 184-ish hp mid sized sedan, and the V6 felt like a rocket to me. I may eventually trade up to a V8 when the car is paid off, but I'm not in a rush. If anything I want to do some driver mods first and actually enjoy the car on back roads and autocross. I would not mod it though, outside of exhaust and maybe CAI. As others have mentioned, you will need to dump a lot of money to get 400 whp. You're going to void your warranty as well. Is this going to be your daily driver? My advice: get the V6, do driver mods, don't do major car mods especially if its your daily driver. Find out what you'd pay on a V8 and make the equivalent payment to your V6. That way you pay off the V6 early, and you can eventually trade up to a V8. Hopefully your V8 insurance rates will have decreased by then. Don't know if your current quoted rates are due to a being a young age, or some 'other factors.' |

Went through the same issue with my son and his v6 Stang. We did an intake, tune and exhaust. It is pretty quick and only not if you jump in and drive a high HP V8. I am in the trade up or be happy camp. I can tell you the guy in the 11s v6 has a shit ton of money in that car.

Or you can dare to be different and stick the turbo'd Caddy v6 in it. Emissions legal and fair power.
