The longer stroke induces more side load on the piston and lower wall.

There is a point where the geometry is acceptable. Go past it and longevity suffers plus the parts become too worn to reuse, but it will still work.

416 is kinda out there on a 4.065 bore.

IMHO, 396/400 is about as far out as I'd go.

Back in the day, people were taking the old Gen 2 LT1's (350 on a 4.00 bore) and stroking them to 427 (with a .60 over bore if I remember right). Word on the street was that it wasn't working out so well longevity wise....

The link doesn't say anything about increasing the bore size on the 416.

The 427's get larger liners (which opens up a new can of worms, like the OEM 427)

De-stroking a LS 427 allows for lighter rotating mass and the big piston/short stroke is great for high end revs, not so great for torque.

Similar to the old de-stroked 302 Camaro motors. Great for racing, not so great for the street because they needed hi R's to get, and stay in, their powerband.

Thank you. My thought is I could use extra low end since it's not a blower build and it's for the street. Want to make the fat girl jump in 4wd on less boost.

I'm not convinced the extra 40 cu ins is a detriment. Displacement has always been the basic hot rodding tool.

416 is a stock LT bore with a 4 inch crank.

We talk of extra wear due to rod angle, etc...how many people run their upgraded engines to a point that is a concern? My Gen II LT4 was a 381 (3.75 stroke/.020 bore) and had 55,000 miles on it...the rings were tired, but I doubt the bore was an issue. 7200 rpm on the track.

If I get the opportunity, it will likely be a 416...I wouldn't be gunning for 1000 HP...just a low cost bump in OEM power.

If staying N/A then yeah but when adding boost the longer stoke can be an issue. I myself have a 416 with boost but I don't beat on it very much.

If I go with the TMS short block with a stock crank with forged rods and piston it is $2200 cheaper then going 416 with Callies compstar crank. is it really worth the money to go with the 416.

Not sure for you but I wanted something to hold 1200 hp.

A real pleasure on my part I assure you. You (and y'all) have been a great help to me... just paying off debt b4 I go headfirst back into this GT500 killer project. I really want that port setup with triples from Crawford. I'm thinking another 15-20k if I'm lucky. At least I've got the twins kit and the 6.2 basics. Thanks buddy!
