Leather Seat Question.
Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone knows if/how to remove the shininess out of leather seats? I believe these seats are supposed to be a matte finish. After 4 years 32,000 mile, mine are quite shiny. I used Meguiars Gold Glass and soap and water for the longest time every month on these seats, seems like they still became shiny. |

I am curious about this too. I just got my used rs and want to protect the leather.

Leather cleaner and conditioner. Pick your brand. I use chemical guys. Works well for me.
It returns the seats back to a matte finish. |

Use some alcohol as a wipe down. I use a horse hair brush I ordered from Amazon which helps agitate the perforated areas a bit more than my normal mircofiber. I am not sure about Meguiars as I do not use that brand, but not properly cleaning before conditioning can cause a shine.

I read somewhere on the forums here that there's a very thin plastic coating over the leather that renders leather conditioners and cleaners useless. Search it if you care to, but I'd like mine to be a little less shiny as well and have no answer

"I use a horse hair brush"
Using a horse on a cow, sounds like a great joke in there somewhere! |

I've read the same thing about almost all leather cars today. That old-school high-end Mercedes leather is long gone. That said, I use Lexol products. Their conditioner smells really good and I think it's the best on the market. |

As I said above. Chemical guys leather cleaner and conditioner leave my seats dull/matte like the day I picked it up off the truck from the factory.

Use some Carpro Inside to clean them, just don't scrub too hard, the vinyl coating on the leather may wear off as as the dye from the leather. Then condition them with Obssssd leather conditioner, best one I have used, love it! Leaves a nice matte finish, very light smell.

I have not seen the underside of the seat covers but I am very sure that the perforated center portion of our "leather seats" is not leather. Leather stretches, wrinkles, and shrinks. The center of the seats do not have these characteristics. The side bolsters of our seats do wrinkle and stretch and you can see that in the pictures above. The perforated sections are very likely "bonded leather" which is a synthetic layer of vinyl like material bonded to a bits of low grade hide. So it is mainly synthetic not a thin layer of clear plastic coating. There are posts on this forum by people whose "leather" is flaking off and discolouring. That is the bonded leather failing. Dye on true leather does not dye leather all the way through, just the surface. Bonded leather is coloured all the way through the synthetic portion (most of it). Like stated above, this is not the "leather" that you used to get in cars in the 70's and 80's. Its just "marketing" by Chevy.

Try cleaning it using an MF towel dampened with APC.
