shopping for camaro and can't decide

Hey guys, new to this forum and I'm looking for some input from the experts!
I've been researching camaros lately, I've always wanted a 5th gen but never been in a position to get one and now I am, although I live in Canada and it's winter so it may not be until next spring. I was looking at either a 2013 or 14 SS, or a 2013 ZL1. My dilemma is a few things.

I prefer the look of the 2013 over the 2014, but in my area both are selling for around the same price, in the low to mid 30K. It would be wiser probably to go with the 14 as it's a year newer but again I like the look of the 13 better. The 2013 ZL1 is around 40-45K. I haven't test driven any of them, actually haven't even sat it one. I don't want to get the ss and regret not going for the top of the line performance model. But for an extra 15K I don't know if I even need that, it's going to be my daily driver in the summer and I'm not sure I need to whip around at 650+ hp all day haha. Also I'm not buying this to turn it into a massive project. Maybe down the line but not for awhile. What do you guys think?

I'm sure there's guys that drive the Zl1 as a DD. Hell, if you have the money (gas mileage) and are ok with putting higher mileage on it - go for it. Personally, if I bought the Zl1 I'd get something else for bouncing around town in - even if it's a old Volkswagen or something lol.

On the other point, I'm with you man. I have a '12 2LT and even if I upgraded to an SS, I'd look at the 12-13 because of the look. I really like the interior of the new 6th gen, but that's it. I MUCH prefer the 5th gen.

Good luck and enjoy the hell out of your new Camaro!

As far as the looks alone, if you like the '13 better, then go with that. It won't matter until you trade it in, and one year won't be a huge difference monetarily compared to the the enjoyment you'll have while you own it.

But definitely test drive an SS, and if it feels too lax for your enjoyment, try out the ZL1 so you don't have any "what if" regrets haunting you.
My experience with that dilemma: last year I bought a '14 1LT and during the year end clearance in December I could have traded it in on a '14 SS for about $6500. My 1LT was only 5 months old at the time so I passed on it. I didn't test drive it and afterward I kicked myself all year because I wondered if I should have traded up.

You won't know if you can "live" with the SS until you drive them. As far as looks go, I'm with you. I prefer the look of the '13. Heck, given the choice of my 2010 or a 2014, I'd still go with my 2010 because of the bodystyle. Is that wise? Maybe not. But if the wisest choice is what you're after, a sports car/muscle car in Canada might not be the way to go. :P

I agree with all you guys. I really like the 13's tail lights too and the halo headlight but is that only on certain models? I'm assuming too that they're hid's as well but I can't find if that's true or not either.
Owning any kind of sports car isn't all that wise in Canada no haha but my dad owned a 67, and about 5 years ago I had a 95 camaro although it was just the V6 but I loved it. Really excited about owning a new one hopefully soon!

The halos/HIDs only come on cars with the RS package.

Hard to go wrong with a ZL1. other than the bigger cost. If it is just a street only car, it is a shame not to get the ZL1 on the track, preferably the road course, 'cause they where born to run there. But you'd love it on the street anyway! How much HP have you driven before? The ZL1 will still bite ya if your not used to big HP.

All ZL1 have the HIDs/halos, which are the same. The SS models with the RS package also have the HIDs/halos.

You are considering an SS. How about trying an SS with the 1LE package? The 1LE is incredibly satisfying, it is an amazing cornering Camaro, looks great and unique. If 426 HP would satisfy you, you'll LOVE a 1LE.

Oh, well then haha.
I still feel like the 2013 SS is my best match. The ZL1 would be nice but I'm sure my gas and insurance would be sky high. I will have take a spin in a couple. Is there any common problems and that with the 2013 ss?

I've owned a 3.8 genesis coupe for 5 years so I'm used to driving 310 hp around that's about the most haha.
Thanks for all your info, I think the only roadblock is going to be finding one of these camaros that fits everything and is within reason. Too bad I wasn't shopping brand new a few years ago

you need to test drive and go from there. Money talks, BS walks... lol and no real problems with a 13..... has the upgraded this and that, and the old school lines more, many bought them up in that way on purpose for appearance, I think a 13 is the best year ...... LOL
