Battery question
Hi guys
As you maybe know, I had some troubles with a toasted battery during the shipping...(from canada). So I changed it : 600€ (nearly 680 dollars). I Wish I didn’t change it every year... Some of you advise me to get a Ctek.... some of you thé optimate (if my memory is good). For thé first one, i saw a lot of bad Notices (toasted after two years, heating probleme...)... nothing for thé second one, I havn’t searched yet My question is simple : Why would it be bad for thé car to unplug the battery and connect it when you want to drive it? I know that it’s needed to configure the glasses.... and somebody told me the camera also... Thanks a lot for your help guys🙂🙂🙂🙂 |

I did this for a couple months a year ago, I had a battery disconnect switch on the battery, and would turn the battery off and disconnect every time I got done with the car. It was fine. No problems, the car will ask you to re-index the windows by rolling them up and down once when you reconnect.

^ that's what I don't want to bother with, resetting stuff every time the battery is disconnected
Put an Optimate on it and forget it. Yes CTEK is junk |

Also, if you're required to get an annual safety inspection that includes a smog check via OBDII, you will fail several readiness codes, requiring you to drive a certain sequence and/or number of miles to get them cleared.
Crap, better throw mine out I've had for the past 12 years.

Joining the choir, mine is the standard 84020223 trickle charger from CTEK, been working fine since I bought it mid-2018.

Good luck, mine crapped out in about 2 years and always ran hot.
The Optimate6 is simply better quality and it's not even close, most people don't don't know about them so stick with what they know |

I’m afraid of it. In France thé Car technical inspection is hard Mine failed at the french homologation with a p300 code ... because of thé battery..... (I think) Thé codes had to be clear and I’m gonna drive to it to see if it’ sur good... Somebody has a optimate référence that could correspond with the french system... I found for the ctek but not for thé optimate .... |

I know you folks across the pond are getting soaked on fuel and oil due to oppressive taxation but how does a $150 (USD) AGM battery end up costing $680?
You would be better served hooking up a battery tender, connect the quick disconnect pig tail to the under hood jump point and ground and stick it out the grill. I have been using Battery Tender brand for decades on my motorcycles and generator with excellent results. My car came with the GM one pictured above but I've never used it so I can't comment. https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tende...NsaWNrPXRydWU= |
