Car won’t start - dead battery?
I had to change spark plug wires on the driver side. After changing the wires, I hopped in and pushed the button....click, click, click, click.
Accessories started. I turned stuff off and hit the damn windshield wiper button...wipers started...then s l ow.....e d. Done. Power out. Didn’t turn over. Nothing. Hooked a jumper box to the car. Nothing. I figured the battery was completely dead...charged over night. Today, I was able to get into the trunk. Tried, jumping and charging again. Nothing. I had an old battery sitting there, I removed the battery and installed the old one. Stuck it on the charger. Now I get in the car and the accessories come on. Try to start. Dead. Completely dead. I put the battery on the charger a few hours. It looks like it was completely charged, but nothing will come on, not even accessories. I figure that The old battery was probably bad too. However, even if it were dead, when I place the jumper on, I would expect accessories to turn on. That’s the sequence of events. I will try to get a new battery tomorrow. I figured it could be: 1. Battery 2. Fuse 3. Could we have messed up something installing spark plug wires? I hadn’t started the car in a few months...but I would like to get her back up and running again. Thoughts?

Buy a new battery. OEM is junk. I had to replace 3 batteries this year that were OEM AC Delco(wife's daily, my daily, and the SS)...all were 3yrs old or less.

Interesting. On my 2010 SS, the battery was 5 years old and still going strong when I sold it. I realize there are always going to be variances but I wonder if GM has changed suppliers? Or did I just get a good one?

Try taking the leads off the battery and hook it up directly to the jump box
I’ve encountered issues like this before on various vehicles over the years where it doesn’t make any sense at all, and it always seems to be the battery. Make sure your jump connections are real good |

I went out and got a new battery and everything started up like a champ. Just means I will always use a tender if it’s gonna sit for any time.

I had an issue with my battery for a while, I would let sit for 3 days and on the 4th day the battery was dead, dealership couldn't figure it out then come to find out that the Helix tail lights were the cause, they sent me the harness for the fix but I put my GM darks back in along with the LED back up light harness and no issues since, I can let sit for 2 weeks and it fires right up.

Most batteries I have had lasted 6-9yrs. For some reason all my 2015-2016 vehicles the OEM battery didn't last more then 3yrs. Must be a bad batch If I had to guess or the quality of Delco went down hill.

Anything longer than 2 weeks they need a tender.

I use a tender every 2-3 days after not driving. Keeps the Bat in better shape probably.
Does this mean that it will not die after ~ 3 years? You never know.... In any case, I am prepared for such scenario and hopefully if it happens, then it will happen withing the 3 years of the Bu2Bu Warranty period, so I get a new one for free. |
