How long are batteries good for?

17 SS 6 speed with 40 something k miles. Daily Driver and never sits. How long can we expect these batteries to last?

batteries aren't made the same as they were in the old days. I would say 3 years could probably be considered normal life span. 5 years is probably the highest end of the spectrum. Some unicorns will last beyond 5 years.

If we're providing real world experience, my 2SS vert was built 05/16. It's my daily driver, is at ~38k, and still running on the original battery.

My experience as a 22 year service advisor is, anything over 3 years is outstanding.

depends on weather conditions. if you live in extremely hot or cold areas, you can get about 3 years out of a decent battery.

3-5 years depending on conditions such as temp, and driving habits. You can buy 5 year batteries and they sometimes last that.

Here in Phoenix, around the 2 year mark you better start watching your battery. If you make it to 3 years consider yourself lucky and get a new 1.

My 5th Gen SS was replaced at 7.5 years, and was working fine when I did so.

Seems about right.

My car was delivered to the dealer 2 yrs and 4 months ago and the battery is going. I put the car in accessory and a notice flashed on the dash that the battery is low and to start the car to allow it to charge.

I brought it to the dealer and they said it needed a charge (it was at ~12.05V, so about half-charged), but it passed load testing so they didn't replace it. Apparently they wait for it to die and you to be stranded before they replace it?!?!?

I'm probably just going to buy an Optima. They last about 10 years.

Whatever your warranty says. Usually only 3 years max.

Car manufacturers stopped putting in 5-6 year batteries in new cars because they sat on the lots too long before sold. Dealers were complaining about having to replace the batteries with an expensive 6 year battery. Then 2007-08 really f'd the dealers, since the new cars sat for 9-10 months before being sold.
