A8 shudder or something else?

Well I thought I had the shudder issue. Slight rumble vibration 8/7 gear, for a few weeks. Earlier this week, the car started doing it more often and much more harsh. Today I had noticed that it was doing the shudder thing outside of 8/7 gear and it would also do it in manual mode. I was under the impression that if I was in manual mode the shudder should not exist.

Any ideas? I called my local dealer who told me to call back after next week since their trans guy is on vacation and the car will just sit

Definitely sounds like the TC shudder issue...it does get worse over time...got the triple flush done on two occations..it helped but shudder is still there...they are now replacing the TC

Yup that’s the TC issue. Manual mode didn’t make a difference for me either towards the end. Only time it didn’t shudder was during hard acceleration.

Be aware that the flush probably won’t work permanently if you waited this long.

I had my TC replaced last week (1300 miles) ... noticed a shutter and took it to the dealer, they replaced the torque converter without hesitation (It was nasty AF inside).

Had mine done last week with 3K on the clock. I took a copy of the TSB in with me, and good thing I did, they had never heard of it and mine with the first they had in for the shudder issue. They did of course further investigate the TSB on their end and did the flush and changed the filter too. Hopefully, got to mine soon enough, if I didn't see the TSB on the forum. I probably wouldn't have noticed it so early.

Mine has same issue as you. Like a rumble vibration around 50mph or so when i press on it just a bit. Same in Manual mode on the HWY that is... I will bring mine back in as well within a week or so and leave my outcome here for others to know.

I had the triple tranny flush at about 10 K miles. That seemed to cure the issue for about 20k rumble-free miles. Now it's back at 31k miles. It's going into the service department on Monday morning. Hopefully I will get a torque converter replacement.

Mine felt the same way ... 50 MPH at about 1k RPM and it was noticeable.

Dropped off my 2017 2SS at the service department this morning. I described the issue to the service manager and it was clear he had seen this before. I offered to demonstrate the issue on a test drive, but he said there is no need...they’re “probably just going to go ahead and replace the torque converter.”

Will update here when I know more, but pretty sure this is the OP’s issue, from the description of symptoms. Hopefully, reporting the progress on my car will help inform a way forward. By the way, mine does the rumble in manual mode, too.

Cheers!

TC replacement wasn't a permanent solution either. Mine was replaced last year, and has already started with the same symptoms right before the shudder.

UPDATE: I got my car back from the dealership after a week (torque converter replaced). All seems to be running well now. I was assured that it was replaced with the new version of the torque converter and the upgraded tranny fluid. Will monitor closely, but it feels like it's driving great right now.

Stay tuned...

I get a rumble strip type shudder at 50-70 MPH, if I ask to have this problem addressed, is this an appointment in which they have to keep the car or can this be done same day typically?

If they just do the 3X tranny fluid flush, probably same day. If torque converter is replaced, I haven't heard less than a week.

My TC replacement took a week and it took them 2 days to get the part in first.

Hope that helps...
