3rd gear jerkage is my number 1 complaint

Love the car, been driving it way more than I had been anticipating, but my most single complaint about the car (A10) is when in manual mode downshifting from 4th to 3rd I get two things that can happen depending on speed. If I going fast enough that when I down shift to 3rd the rpms only reach about 4-4.5k then there is a harsh shift that completely disconnects me from my enjoyment, because it always feels as if something is wrong or broke, If Im slowing down as like to a stop light and down shift to 3rd the car actually lunges forward as Im braking..When that happens it really is a shock everytime. Ive scheduled 4 TSB's to be addressed with my dealer and the tranny overfill is one of them. Im almost hoping that it is indeed overfilled and thus the issues ive been having. Ill keep you updated, but how many others have this issue with there A10 for the record.

I had my first positive experience with the 4-3 shift this morning. The key for me was doing it quickly. I really had to just keep downshifting fast from the 5-4 shift and then immediately pull for the 4-3 shift. The result was a smooth and quick shift with no harsh jerk. Give it a try.

thats cool Jm, but I should not have to do anything special, just like I dont have to do anything special when downshifting to any other gear but 3rd. Also this doesnt work if I happen to not pass gear 4 and have to downshift to 3rd. But for gp, Ill give it a shot.

I have the exact same issue. I know others have taken it to the dealer for this issue and they said it was normal. I wish they would come up with a software update to fix this. Please let us know what the dealer says.

I don't even own a ZL1 but my SS A8 does something very similar shifting from 4th to 5th. I've had it at multiple dealers and nobody seems to think it's an issue. If you're under WOT or smashing the gas at highway speed to make a pass the shift is very violent and the traction control lights come on. I don't get how this is "normal".

It's been keeping me from installing a full exhaust on the car because I don't want to blow my warranty out while it has this lingering issue. Knowing my luck I'll do the exhaust and a tune on the car and the tranny will take a shit and I'm on the hook for a new A8.

I just started experimenting a little with the paddle shifters the last 2 days (still in break in, so nothing crazy). I’ve been shifting from 1st all the way to 7th and all the back to 1st with no issues at all. Smooth blips of the throttle every time. Nothing seemed out of place going into 3rd.

Oh, did I mention how glorious the car sounds down shifting? Love it!

The third gear jerk issue is when you are downshifting, not upshifting.

I haven’t noticed this in 1600 miles. Not that I look for it specifically. But hasn’t bothered me and I have driven manual several times.

Correct, I've definitely been downshifting from 4th to 3rd with no issue as of yet (in break-in).

But yeah, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it once I can start having even more fun with the go pedal!

I have the exact same issue. I can let the car downshift itself and no harshness at all, but when I do it...

...And it only happens from 4 to 3. For me, other downshifts work great.

Might it be a learned behavior?

I wonder if clearing the transmission memory (disconnecting the battery, typically) would change the shifts at all.

I'm still waiting for my car to arrive...:(

lol...mine is 3-4 but it's not horrible. Just rougher than when up-shifting any of the others??
